Sun Country 727's

Sat Jan 05, 2002 4:40 am

Who has Sun Country's 727's now? I just shot one departing MCO without titles, but still has the orange stripe across the fuselage (the plane with the "Hi" and smiley face on the bottom). Thanks.

I first discovered the "Hi" and the smiley face when I was riding my bike along a trail south of MSP, which is right under the final approach to 30L. Somehow I get the feeling that NW might not start doing that to their fleet too...

Is that southern trail of MSP by any chance BIG RIVERS? Right by the cofluence of the two rivers, Mississippi and Minnesota River. I run there some times! The planes come in so low, I love the CO 737s and NWA 747s landing! Usually when I fly back into MSP, I come into 30R, and I have noticed the running trail there!

I seen a ex Sun Country 727 "hi" at MKE. I think Ryan International Airlines (Charter) is using it from MSP-MCO-MKE-MSP

Last time I saw a Sun Contry 727 was excatly one year ago in DFW. I managed to take a picture of it with my digital camera, I knew it was the last time I would see one. Yes, those are all gone know. I don't even know if there are still DC-10's at Sun Country. Do they still have any? I know they have now 737-800's.

Sun Country has started some charter flights back up. I saw them the other day at the aiport (MSP). They did recieve the 73G and they make it look absolutley perfect. Haven't seen it in the air yet tho. Just at the hanger.

I remember in 2000 flying in a Sun Country 727 MSP-JFK, JFK-MSP twice that year. Did you know that the 727s were once owned by SAS? I saw on the cabinets in the galley, they had SAS on them!

Continental, are you sure about this? T my very best knowledge SAS has never operated the B727-100/200.

Boy am I glad I took a pic of a Sun Country 727 at PHX last year. I went ahead and mapped out all of the airlines that flew into our terminal, and Sun Country was one of them, so I was hoping to see a Sun Country DC-10, but instead I saw a 727.

So, I took a few pics of it, and returned to my seat to wait for my flight. Then I looked out the window and saw a PHX fire truck rushing to the Sun Country 727, so I literally ran back to the SC gate to see what happened, and it appeared that the MX people spilt some jet fuel all over the tarmac.

Continental,

I can assure you Sun Country was never owned by SAS or any other airline for that fact. Federal regulations prohibit it any foreign corporation or individual, from owning more than 49% of any U.S. based airline.

What you saw was other airlines decals on the galley food carts. These get switched around from airline to airline. Especially so with the smaller carriers. We even had some with Sterling European and Air Portugal in our galleys. The catering guys just grab whatever carts are convenient and load them up with food.

Sadly, I'm not with Sun Country any longer.. I've moved on to bigger and better things. Luckily I got out two months before they shut down. I still keep in touch with a lot of friends from SY. I hear they may be flying again. But the future doesn't look that promising.

They got rid of the DC-10's a year ago or so, and as of Dec 8th, the airline shut down.
