VG Airline Go To Jfk

Sat Jan 05, 2002 6:15 am

Now that we have the delivery date of the 3 airbus 332 of VG airline ( 3 ex - SN) with the strat of a daily BRU JFK 1st of march and to Boston 15th of march the third airbus go maybe to LAX ??

THe logic in this story with the merger between DAT and VEX is:

a brand new airline in Belgium with maybe a brand new name with
2 part :

a medium short haul operation for the ex - VEX DAT
a long haul operation under the management of VG (they have 3 ex SN airbus )

BUT go to LAX is not maybe a good idea is the partnership with AA continue we have :
a daily BRU ORD by AA
a daily BRU JFK by the new company
A daily BRU BOS by the new company
the third aircraft must go to a AA hub then DFW or MIA
the best solution is maybe that AA take DFW BRU and the new company MIA BRU or vice versa so we have a daily connection between BRU and all the AA hub ( I know BOS is not a AA hub )

I heard that "VG Airlines" was going to be named after the founder of it. How modest is that, naming an airline after yourself  Yeah sure.

The new airline should think of a name something like "Belgium International" or something like that.

If the AA partnership were to I guess, continue, than I think that DFW would keep the service. However, only if the partnership were on. The Sabena service worked because there was a ton of feed at DFW and BRU from connecting pax.

MIA-BRU please. That would be great. A lot of traffic on the route, and while it offers less connections than Dallas (though it does offer the best connections to Latin America and the Caribbean, somewhere BRU lacks), it makes up for it with the higher O&D market. I think it is very possible if VG partners with AA.

VG (Airlines) = Van Gaever (Airlines)

... and why is VLM Airlines' (Belgian regional airline) designator "VG" - because Freddie van Gaever founded it in 1993.

...and why were the first aircraft of Delta Air Transport back in the mid 1960s registered OO-VG... ? - because van Gaever founded Delta Air Transport.

Good Luck to him

Like LJ said the third A332 could be flying to Africa. It looks like everybody seems to forget Africa the last few days / weeks.

Regards, SN-A330
I would rather be flying...

VG Airlines Images Here

Sun Jan 06, 2002 5:21 pm

VG Airlines signed a contract for the lease of 3 ex-Sabena Airbusses from ILFC. The aircraft are stored at Bordeaux for the moment and will be painted into VG Airlines colours very soon by a French paintshop nearby Toulouse. Some VG Airlines images can already be seen here:

Very nice Air Orange. You should start a seperate topic to display your designs. By the way, what kind of letter type are you using for the VG Airlines logo? Looks really cool Big grin

News Update

Mon Jan 07, 2002 7:11 am

LATEST NEWS

The fact that the third A330-200 almost for sure will be named "Rudy Guiliani. Time Magazine "Person of the Year 2001". Major of New York 1994-2001." could indeed say that the first official flight will be BRU-JFK. Can't wait to join Van Gaever on this trip.

The first two A330-200's (ex-Sabena aircraft leased from ILFC) will be named after Van Gaever's grand children Emilie de Graaf en Michael Toman.

VG Airlines is planning to start out with service to New York (JFK) starting on March 1, followed by Boston (BOS) on March 15th.

Then a 3rd destination will follow, most likely Los Angeles (LAX). No date announced yet though.

They are also looking into serving Denver (DEN). A BRU-DEN flight could do great if they do some sort of code-share agreement with United on that route. If not, then I'm not sure how well it will do. It might have a chance.

That is all that they have announced so far. I'm sure they will look at other destinations such as SFO, MIA, ATL, etc.

I'll miss Sabena.  Sad

Regards.

While the name is a little cheap, that stunning color scheme is far more striking than Sabena's ever was. Wonder if VG will fly into JFK's Terminal Four where SN used to be.

Air Orange,

Is it a joke about "Rudolf Guiliani" ? Uhmmm, it sounds
like a few people in Belgium doesn't know how to nickname an aircraft...With full respect to Van Gaever, it would have been more clever to use "City of New
York" for instance! Well, that's not less funny than
"Princess Elisabeth" (sorry for the Monarchists) or
"Spirit of the WTC"  Big grin !!!

cheers,

As I said before; it is not yet 100% confirmed that it will be "Rudy". I think they might go for the full name "Rudolph Giuliani". Perhaps the A330-200 with this name will be used for the inaugural flight BRU-JFK at March 1, 2002.

Be continued...

LXLGU - How can dat start flying on April 1 to Kinshasha when
a/ it is still very uncertain that dat will survive
b/ if it survives under what form (meaning how much money will there be available - this will determine if it will be a European only carrier or not)
c/ when dat doesn't have the aircraft to fly to Kinshasha???

VG Airlines' official opening flight will be to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, planned March 1, 2002. The nickname of the plane will be "New York City. The Big Apple (incl. logo)." A welcome ceremony at JFK is in preparation.

Okay, I got the point this time...I was sure "New York
city" would be the most pleasant nickname for such
inaugural flight....I'll be at Zaventem on March 1 but on
my way to Asia, I hope to spot the aircraft on the
tarmac!

If the Walloon government pulls out its finance then unless it can be replaced quickly the whole DAT/VEX/VG Airlines project will collapse.

DAT will go into liquidation along with the other SIC group companies; which will then mean that Freddy van Gaever will have to apply for his own AOC, Operating Licence and DOT402 certification. That will take around a year.
