SFO-SHA is not currently suspended. Flight still operates, daily 744, UA857/858.

Also...
LAX-AKL is LAX-AKL-MEL.
SFO-SYD is SFO-SYD-MEL
One of two daily SFO-NRT is SFO-NRT-ICN.

Anyone know how much longer UA will operate the SYD - MEL segment. Apparently, the Aussie govt recently revoked their rights to carry SYD-originating pax just to MEL.

My SYD-MEL theory is that segment is flown to give UA pilots more flying time (they did this with SYD-BNE many years ago). Apparently there has been some concern by the FAA that UA 744 drivers do not have sufficient take off/landing experience as almost all their 744 sectors are double crewed. I think Northwest avoided the FAA's concern as their NRT hub had sufficient short haul 744 operations.

United bought the 13 pacific destinations PanAm used to operate. Today UA flies only to 12. Manila was dropped.

From LAX
NRT daily 747-400 (flight continues to SIN)
SYD daily 747-400
AKL daily 747-400 (flight continues to MEL)

From SFO
NRT daily 747-400 (flight continues to ICN)
NRT daily 777-200 (flight continues to PEK)
HKG daily 747-400
SYD daily 747-400 (flight continues to MEL)
TPE daily 747-400
SHA daily 747-400
KIX daily 747-400

From ORD
NRT daily 747-400 (flight continues to ICN)
HKG daily 747-400
PEK daily 777-200

JFK-NRT daily 777-200 (flight will continue to TPE)
SEA-NRT daily 777-200 (flight continues to BKK)
HNL-NRT daily 747-400 (flight continues to HKG)

From NRT
ICN double daily 747-400
PEK daily 777-200
HKG daily 747-400
SIN daily 747-400
BKK daily 777-200
TPE daily 777-200 ***Eff. April 2002

NW flies to more Asian destinations, only that 90% of the times you have to connect through NRT.

Both SFO-NRT flights are operated by the 747-400, however the second daily rotation is due to switch to a 777-200 on January 8th.

FYI--UA no longer serves SHA, but rather the new Shanghai International Airport in Pudong, PVG.
