What's Boeing About The 717?

Wed Aug 04, 1999 4:20 am

Does anybody know exactly what Boeing contributed to the development of the 717? Is there any part of the design that would not have been included, had McDonnell Douglas built it? For example, did Boeing change the cargo doors to be more 737-like? MD-80 cargo doors, frankly, suck.

To me, the most drastic improvements with the 717 are the avionics and the European engines. Were these two things Boeing ideas?

Also, the prototype has built-in airstairs. Is this included in production models?

From what I read on the Boeing website, it sounds like the air stairs are not a standard feature, but are offered as an option.
