How Is Air Transat Doing?

Sun Jan 06, 2002 12:10 am

I haven't heard a thing about TS latley? Are they still operating all of their flights....I have seen a few L1011's turning onto final, while standing outside at work. My question is...I never see anymore A330's B757's or A310's....all i see are the L1011's in the cargo area at YYZ. I know that they are paid for, but I thought they might be up in the sky or something....doing the atlantic routes?

Anyone with any info?

Grant, I am curious myself how TS is doing. I did see an L1011 land yesterday as well as one of the A330's, which I hadn't seen in a long time! With C3 gone, I would assume that Transat would gain from that. They do have some good things, such as owning some of their aircraft, as well as actually saving money. Apparantly they have lots of money which could be used in case something goes wrong. Things that Angus doesn't understand!

They have survived their incident in the Azores, the incident in France as well, and lots of really bad press. Let's hope Transat will do much better in the future.

Nuno,

If TS could ever adopt Royal's service....they would take the country by storm, I have heard nothing good from TS....only that they got you there.....late usually, but on the ground....most of the time.

Take care and we'll see you soon...maybe tomorrow?

Hey Grant, I'll be at Threshold tomorrow, so stop by if you'd like. However, we'll be doing inventory, and both owners will be there, so I know I wont be able to do much chatting unfortunately. I kind of like it when one is working and the other is on holidays!!!  Smile)

I have posted before that yes, TS was terrible before, and I've had many poor flights with them. But I flew back from Portugal in February last year on the A330, and I was pleasantly surprised. Their service was comparable to C3's, the airplane was very nice, new, and comfortable (this one had 8 across seating, not 9), and we got in early!!! Give Transat some time to work out its flaws, and I think it's been doing that, and it will be a very good airline.

Thanks for the update...I have not flown TS since......Sept 99.....so it should be better now, and I wouldn't mind one more ride on the L1011!!!

See you tomorrow then, anything new there.....I haven't got any new models in a while.....??? LOL!!!

I think Air Transat can be one heck of a good airline but they need to make some minor improvements. But I can see them becoming very good, in the near future.

Well, one incident in France last summer was an L10 taking off from Lyon that encountered a hail storm. Severe damage to the radome, fwd fuselage. The a/c returned to Lyon but has not re-entered service since.

LOL....laughing out loud.

I arrived from LGW on Air Transat yesterday and it was a great flight. Having heard so much bad stuff about them from various people, I was very pleasently surprised. They flight was great, it was on an L1011 which is know my favourite aircraft. I was sitting very close to the back 36H which is the starboard window seat. I could see the whole back of the wing from there. I like how they have the degrees of flap written on the actual wing so you can see how far down they are lowered. I didn't think the aircraft was loud, not louder than 767 I think... Also, the FAs were very polite and funny but still professional. The food was good, Air Canada's is no better. We had breakfast and dinner with drinks served a few times. I great flight and I am very happy that it wasn't an A330 and that I got a chance to fly on the L1011. I wish there were more of them around.

Well TS is doing fine. We now have 4 310-300 with 2 more coming this year and we are suppose to get another 330 in 2002. We only gained 7 flights or so from C3. Apparently their flights we only 40%full at the end... Ts is not going on the domestic market anytime soon. The day C3 closed TS flights between YVR and YYZ were not even full so i wonder where were those standed passengers. WE are not flying the L1011-150 no more unless there is a mechanical and that we need abackup plane. our ontime performance as improved considerably. All my flights this month came back early. We can clearly see a difference with last year. We have almost the number of flights but with smaller planes... so there are still a few FA laid off.

Can wait to see the summer sched. We have signed for the japanese contract again this year with this time 2 flights a week.

best regards

Airtime,

Are you guys still using the L1011-500 YYZ to FLL? If so, how much longer do you plan on keeping them in service?

Cheers,

I had been on a TS B734 in Dec 1997 (rented from VEX), they supplied a very stylish set of plastic utensils which did not look cheap at all, do they still have the same kind of utensils now?

Islander, as Yyz717 said, the incident in France regards an L1011 which flew into a hail storm, and was damaged, and never repaired. I have pictures of that, and it wasn't pretty!

Airtime, I'm really glad to see TS is doing well. I did see the improvements in their service for sure. I also understand that they are adding new leather seats for the Club Transat section, which should look very nice when completed.

I applied at Air Transat at the same time I applied at Royal as a flight attendant, but their I assume I didn't get hired because I am not fluent in French. May that be the case?

Anyways, good luck to Air Transat!

What I love about TS is the fact that three of their AC are powered by RR engines....(L1011, 757, A330)

Out of interest... What engines are the 310s powered by?

I just love the 757s (are they staying with TS?)..

The A310's are GE. There are no RR A310's.

The 752 fleet was steady at 5 for several years. One was returned to the lessor last year so now they have only 4 left. Not sure what their 752 plans are.

Air Transat must have good managment because look at the bad publicity they had BEFORE Sept.11 and they just keep on truckin'

I do miss seeing their 757's and L-1011's and A330's here at YYC. Haven't seen them since before Sept. 11th. My sis flew TS to Cuba a couple years ago and she said it was great, I asked what kind of plane she was on and she can't remember  Angry

The reason that TS is still in business is that the L1011's are all paid for and they always have been...(correct me if I am wrong) It is easy to save money as a company when you aircraft are mostly gravy flights!!!

Plus Transat corporation is pretty big and backs TS I guess,

Long live Canadian Aviation!!

Air Transat is part of Transat A.T. holding which is indeed quite strong. They do not depend on anybody to fill their aircrafts.

I too heard pretty bad things about TS. I took TS few time, including my latest trip between YMX and PVR last July in a 757, and each time was a very pleasent experience.

I hope TS will be there for a long time.

What happened to the 330 that ran out of fuel? What have they done with it?

C-GITS (the A332 involved in the Azores emergency landing) has returned to Canada about 3 weeks ago, and has already re-entered service with TS.

TS is still running the L10 down to Trinidad actually.
Mostly taking up the slack for C3 passengers out of YYZ.

I heard from an inside TS source that they ran the L10 on two engines on a flight recently.

Hey! Well since i do hiring for TS maybe the fact that you are not fluent in french could have been a reason for not being hired. But we have many FA who don't speak french but they speak either German, Spanish, Greek, Dutch etc. Last year we also hired unilangual people since we were looking for so many people. Hope this help. Stay tuned as we ma be hiring again this spring...

cheers

Inbound,

I'm not surprised to hear that they were flying on two engines....which one went out? #2? If so that wouldn't be as bad i guess as 1 or 3?

Thanks for the update,

Hi Airtime, thank you for your response. I just got the feeling that I did not get hired because I am not fluent in French. I think that if I were fluent in French, plus my fluency in Portuguese, I would have had a chance at getting hired. I understand that TS wasn't looking for any Portuguese F/A's at the time.

If I do decide on going back as a flight attendant, I will keep my doors open with Air Transat once more  Smile

Thanks for the info.

Gmonney,
I got that news about the L10 running on two engines a week before posting that here, so I forgot if it was engine # 1 or 3.
but I know it was NOT #2.

Hey,

Just got to say that TS covered for my Canada 3000 flight back to Toronto on November 20th 2001 from Trinidad. The flight was onboard the L-1011-500 aircraft. It was a great flight. I guess GG Tours contracted out TS to cover for the flights from Toronto to Trinidad.

Is TS going to continue to Trinidad if another airline enters the YYZ-POS market? TS was flying to Trinidad before but pulled out when C3 started to send the A330-200 down.

Best Regards,

BWIA330
