Is This A Busy Flight Path?

Sun Jan 06, 2002 9:30 am

Seems to be a lot of contrails here. We are in a train headed east. Wonder where these aircraft are heading. Is it possible to tell how high there aircraft are? I know its differcult but how about a guess. This was two week ago.

I'm not sure how many contrails there are.

But there are "roads" in sky. Commercial airliners fly "IFR" routings, so if there are many IFR routings where you live, there will be lot of planes flying over your house everyday.

I am almost willing to bet that those two next to each other are military. They are the same size and appear to curve at the same time as if they are flying together

That could be just a twin-engine plane, I can't tell...

When you're standing in an open space in Colorado (like near runway 16 at DEN) you can see up to 10-15 contrails going different directions.

IF you have a scanner with you you will find out how high the aircrafts are.

Well, certainly there are busy flight paths in the New York area, but until you tell us where you are and which way you're looking we don't know whether you're under one.
