I have been to LHR, but cleared customs at a different area as I was transferring on to EDN.

As for ORD, in their international arrivals building, I would say they have around 30- 40 or so. My transatlantic flight came in at an early time (AA flight 99, or 98 forgot which one, from LHR) right before the morning international arrivals came in. With a fully loaded 763, we got through immigration in probably about 10 minutes or so.

For DFW, there is probably around 10-15, it is horribly understaffed especially at peak times for American.

YVR has a good 30-40.
I don't remember for LGW and ZRH, it's been so long

JFK has tons in multiple terminals!

Never been to T1 arrival hall, but they probably have more than 15 or so.

T3 has 7 or 8 or so in their international arrivals area.

The new Terminal 4 has an astonsihing number and the intl arrivals hall is quite impressive with a beautiful mural of arriving refugees and immigrants and the statue of liberty.

T5's intl arrivals area has been closed with the entire terminal.

T7 is very small, probably 5 or 6 stations, nothing impressive.

Never been to T8's international arrivals area.

Fort Lauderdale has very few at Terminal 4.

NRT has around 40 total I'd guess, though only about 20 are staffed at any given time that I've seen. This is for both terminals, and it's really awful given how busy that airport is for international arrivals. My first time there I waited close to two hours to get through customs; it was just bedlam, nobody knew where to go and the line was practically all the way back to the gate. Getting out of the country is no better; at rush hour you can wait an hour or so just to get through the passport checkpoint. This was before Sept. 11, mind you, and it wasn't any better security than at any American airport - all they do is have you walk through a metal detector and show your passport. But there are only two machines per terminal to handle I don't even know how many thousands of people per hour. That really is an awful airport, and is totally unrepresentative of what you find in the country as a whole. Almost everything in Japan is efficient and well-designed; that airport is certainly not that.

JFK is much older and more haphazard than NRT, and it's not much to look at, but I've never had to wait more than about 10 minutes to get through customs (last time back might have been a bit longer, but I don't remember thinking it was excessive). And there's never been any extra wait at all caused by my international flying status to get to the gate.

Denver (DEN) has around 10 to 15, somewhere in there.

Regards.

MLA (Malta International Airport), the one and only gateway to Malta, has about eight or ten passport counters, of which two or so are for "Maltese Passports" only. I always thought it discriminating because I didn't have a Maltese Passport, but now that I got one...  Laugh out loud

I was just at ORD Terminal 5 2 hours ago, mine was the only flight, a charter 757 we got through with no line at "checkpoint" or whatever its called #37 and i could see at least 10 more past it so i am guessing somewhere around 50 at ORD.
