Tue Jan 08, 2002 5:39 am

To go a little futher than Godbless's excellent post I was wondering if any one out there had ever been on a flight that crashed and lived to tell the tail.

The brother of one of my mother's friend survived a crash. He was aboard the Ethiopian Airlines 767 which has been hijacked and which crashed in the Indian ocean. I don't know how he is now.

I was on a Lao Aviation 737-200 which crash landed at Wattay International Airport, Vientiane, Laos. Funny thing was - even though we were probably in some peril the whole thing kind of happened in slow motion and it didn't affect me at all. In fact, I was perfectly happy to get on another Lao Aviation plane for the return flight to BKK!
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

One of the teacher in my high school was in the Little Rock crash when the American Airlines MD80 landed there in a very powerful thunderstorm killing the pilot but not the passenger but did a big amount of damage of the plane.

She told me about it las year or 2.

The Saudi L-1011 that burned, is that the plane that burned when the Arabs on board flying to Mecca for Ramadan started some oil lamp fire? Did anyone survive?

???

Wasn't the reason because of chafing of wires and hydraulic lines in the aft fuselage, leading to a fire that spread quickly in the vaporised fluid to engulf the entire plane eventually? The fire also diabled the pressurisation ensuring they could not open the doors, and died. All of them

My sis was a passenger on an IC aircraft that crashed in the North-East.

She says she didnt realise the plane had crash-landed until the FA's screamed at the pax to get off!

Looking at pics of the incident it seems hard to believe that pax onboard didnt realise that the aircraft had crash-landed!

I saw a dramatisation of that Saudia Airlines L1011 accident. The reason why nobody survived that fire was that the pilots were incompetent. The flight engineer was an old American dude who was almost blind and didn't even know how to read his panel in front of him then to top it off the captain chose not to evacuate the aircraft on the runway but instead to taxi it back to the terminal and the aircraft was consumed by fire along with all the pax and crew.

Hi-all!
Was involved in a Piper Chieftain accident at
Sun City South Africa in 1983.Aircraft stalled on takeoff.
We crashlanded in a field. The right wing sheared off.
7 pax on board-just minor injuries.
Joke is-a tractor and trailer came to fetch us and that
also got stuck in a gully and turned on its side
I know one of the pax on board has never set foot on
an aircraft again
I guess it wasnt our time!
Cheers!
Tony

I read up about that L1011 fire on a website somewhere... apparently the fire started while they were still in flight, and landed safely, but then the pilot taxied without starting emergency procedures (presumably to keep the airport open), all 301 passengers and crew died  Sad.
