Canadian Military Charter's

Tue Jan 08, 2002 9:09 am

Canada has announce it'll be sending about 700 troops mostly from Edmonton and 20 or so from Winnipeg. Can we expect some charter planes going overseas? If anyone has some info or knows when we'll se the planes please respond.

They'll be sending them where?? Afghanistan?

If this is for peacekeeping in Afghanistan, then they'd probably be UN charters in which case, they could use any carrier, not necessarily Canadian ones.

Here (NZ) in the past, we've had aircraft from the Ukraine (IL86),Egypt (A300),USAF(C5A), Air Transat(L1011),Scandanavian(767) as well as a host of others to move our troops to various parts of the globe for UN peacekeeping operations.

They are not going as peacekeepers. 750 should be possible over a period of a month or so using existing equipment...personell on the Polaris (A310) with most of the equipment coming on Hercs...but man it would be a lot easier if we had half a dozen or more C-17s.

I thought about the Polaris A310s but I thought they were going more or less within a couple of days of each other.
And yeah, with the C17s, they could land just about anywhere.

You also must remember that the thought of a C17 is like winning the lottery  Yeah sure . West Edmonton mall has more subs than the Candian navy Big grin .....  Smokin cool

Actially the C17 contract is just waiting for it's time in the house for approval...We are getting them, but at the pace that the liberals are moving, they will be out of date by then.

An eternal repeat of Canada's poor logistics capacity. Another example of that happened in the mid-80's. Canadian armed forces had to charter SOVIET merchant vessels to carry their equipment to Europe for NATO exercises in West Gremany due the lack of canadian/NATO countries merchant vessels availibility...
