My Worst Day In Aviation

Wed Jan 09, 2002 6:24 am

When i was going to go the Gothenbourg, Sweden, from Madrid i had to stop at London-LHR to grab my next flight. That day was so terrible, that i'll remember it for the rest of my life. I was getting into the aircraft to Heathrow (A BMI A320) and everything went smooth until we sat down and took off. After take-off the pilot began playing with the joystick and moved the airplane up and down, left and right until i was about to throw up. (Luckily i did not). Then the air hostess got on the PA and said that London LHR had catering problems and therfore we would not get any food on board. I was already P"#@? off enough until the air hostess came around with some bags of peanuts. When i was gonna open it to eat them, i saw that it was already open...and half empty. The landing was smooth until the captain braked so hard, that i almost smashed my face into seat infront of me. That was un-cool. After waiting 4 hours in LHR (the highlight of the day) we boarded SAS for my flight to GOT. For a change there was food which looked really good, until i opened it. It was super cold and over-peppered. I'm not exagerating. I looked forward to the landing (as always). For a change, that was smooth.

You guys probably have some cool stories to tell us!!
What is your worst aviation day?

I doubt the pilot was moving the controls around for fun...you usually get past that after about your third solo.

January 2nd, 2002. Vanguard 737-200 from ATL to MCI. We were supposed to take off at 12:30 P.M. We sat on the runway in a snowstorm for 4hours wating to be de-iced! And as most of you know the 737-200 is not exactly the biggest plane in the world and does not have nearly the leg room as others. Well as our pilot told us, we got it lucky, some people sat for 11 hours!!

I agree with CPDC10-30. You don't play with an aircraft for fun. The pilot must have got a reason for that like weight problems or weather problems.
And about the food; the fact that there was none can happen.
This is life you will get over it.

Maybe. But nothing remotly resembling it has ever happened to me. And yes i do believe that the pilot was toying around with the a/c.

I doubt a pilot would play around with the plane - he'd get reprimanded for that.

As for the food, well you should complain to bmi about that. Things like that can happen, but shouldn't happen.

Food on SAS is almost always cold on euro flights anyway (unless you're lucky enough to be up front in Business Class). Not very impressive in that respect.

Cheers,

Me and my brother went to spot as usual to Denver Int'l Airport to Runway 16 and we saw a UAL777 come in so we rushed there, it landed and then the aircraft started taking off so we were stuck there with no good pics, then we went down to runway 35 through the tollway with no people in it only machines that told you to put 50 cents in, we only had 35 and so we had to fill out one sheet to pay later on. So we went to runway 35 and 3 planes landed and started taking off again (only small stuff was taking off on both runways, like props) so we went back and missed another UAL777, then it came back good, on our way home we got one of those tickets to fill out because we didn't have the 50 cents and later paid it by the toll way with people inside. We got some good pics though!

A few weeks ago during a flying lesson I almost saw a serious crash take place, but it was averted at the last second thankfully, very scary moment...

My day on AF from CVG-FLR has to be pretty poor.

We are pushed back from the gate at CVG when we get pushed back in, and told that the plane(742) is having computer problems, and we will be delayed until it gets fixed. Well, we wait three hours, still being able to see the gate right there. I am in coach, and everyone is starting to get restless. There is a group of like 20 people that starts walking laps around thecoach secting, and the F/As don't care, and then this woman in front of me yells at an F/A b/c she is pissed. Of course, the whole time this is going on, we are all getting showers b/c of the wet air conditioning on the 742s, especially when it is real humid outside, which it was. We finally take off, and get to CDG 1h15m ahead of my connection. (I had a 3:15 layover). I think that this is ok, so I am chillin in the terminal, and then the one girl in our group( I was with my school) cant find her wheelchair, and we figure it is still on F-GPVX, the 742, so a small part of our group goes back to try and get the chair. However, another adult has my boarding pass, so when we get back, I cannot pass security. I have to go to the connection counter and talk my way through this mess in French, which was really fun, and then run up to security. At this point, it is 1530, and my flight leaves at 1545. They are making last calls and stuff. Then there is a security shutdown when there is only 4 people ahead of me in line, so I sit for 20 mins while my flight is not heard of. The checkpoint finally opens and I run to the gate, manage to catch the last bus to my plane(it is a CityJets BAe146-200) and hop up the airstairs as they are bleeding from the APU. From that point on, the CityJets crew was great, and the rest of the flight was wonderful.

It just started like hell.

When I was on a 55 minute flight on DL from ATL-MCO, they didn't have pepsi, only coke. I was VERY upset...how could they do that to me. It was an uneventful flight, and we landed 10 mins early, but still, I could not believe they didn't have pepsi.  Angry

Unbelievable. I thought Funny was going to tell a great aviation story about being on fire and upside down at 40,000' with 0 airspeed and 0 ideas. Instead I read that his meal was cold and over peppered.

Bad days in aviation consist of dead friends not over-peppered meals.

Although, no Pepsi is very near to tragedy.

I was exciting to fly on Boeing 777 from Chicago to San Francisco for first time long haul flight on 777 flight. I got boarding pass and wait for the plane arrive at gate. I saw the plane was arrive. I saw first nose aircraft and cockpit window was different. I walked to closer and shocked! It was a DC10! I was so upset and asked the agent where's Boeing 777 and I was making booked for 777 flight to SFO. They said, sorry, we had a problem and change equipment unexpected. I walked to across gate area where the 747-400 is also going to SFO and agent said they plane was sold out. I was not happy to fly on DC-10 for 4 hours! So, I did flew back SFO-ORD on B777 but the seat was last row barely to view one window. It was not pleasure the entire round trip!

You were fortunate to have the DC-10 subbed, you'll probably never have a chance to fly on one again. The 777 will be around for at least 30 more years.
