Alaska Airlines To Start Service To Denver (DEN)

Wed Jan 09, 2002 10:38 am

That is ALL I know. I just heard the last bit of it on my local TV news station.

I have no idea about the frequency, aircraft equipment, or from where.

Denver Airport's site is down now, and Alaska Airline's hasn't updated there News section since January 4.

Anyone found any info on the web?

Regards.

I just saw it too and wanted to post it. Hey BA! It said on the news that "Alaska Air to star service to Denver International Airport" it didn't say when or anything about it. You beat me to it. I'll go search the web...Be back with info...

I haven't found anything about this on any Seattle news sites or alaskasworld.com or alaskaair.com. I'll keep checking, but I am a bit doubtful here. I don't think they would expand this quickly or into this route with the industry as it is right now.

I wonder what they'll use... Maybe a 737-900 or Md80... What do you think?

I'm guessing 737-700. We'll find out soon enough.

IF this is true (still not on Seattle media), I am guessing, to compete with United, they will have to use the 737-900. UA runs a LOT of 752s on that route, and the 739 is just about as big (a few rows shorter).

Ahhhh I should have thought of that. Thanks, BA. In that case, yeah, I'd put my money on the 737-700.

But, I'm still doubtful. lol, sorry, I'll just believe it when I see it.

All day today people have been talking about a big announcement coming tommorrow, looks like this is it. Look on the rockymountainnews.com site under business and there's a small article. Looks like it was the Mayors office who spiled the beans. We'll know tommorrow from what city they will fly, although its probably Seattle. Rumor is that its two new cities that Alaska is announcing service to.

Ok, I believe it now. No wonder the local media hasn't picked it up yet. I agree with the analysts that say that its a 95% chance its Alaska, since Southwest says they have no plans to fly to Denver.
Jack Walsh isn't talking, so thats the give-away.  Big grin

Thats great, I live right outside of ANC, glad to hear that.

I hope they keep expanding.

Anybody know if they are going to expand on the east coast any more?

Boston?!?!? That is about the last destination I thought they would have picked. But I am glad to see Alaska Airlines expanding their East Coast destinations, especially at this time. I would really like to see them increase their destinations on the east coast. Is Boston going to be served from SEA or ANC, or both?

Maybe, just maybe, we'll oneday see them down here in South Florida. SEA-FLL anyone?  Big thumbs up

BOS is only once a day and only from SEA. This market actually makes sense, nobody flies non-stop SEA-BOS. And the 737-700 only has 120 seats, so you don't need too may people to break even.

Great news! Thanks 737-990!

United Airlines has (or had, 9/11 may have canceled it) a seasonal daily flight from DEN to ANC on an A320. Last year, it started in April and ended was supposed to end in October but I think it was cut short as a result of 9/11.

I'm not sure if its coming back this year. Maybe, maybe not. If so, they'll have some competition from Alaska Airlines.

If they are going to have 4 flights a day here, then I'm guessing they will be leasing 2 gates.

Regards.

737-990,

So SEA-DEN is on a 737-400.

What about the single ANC-DEN flight? The 737-400 doesn't have the range for ANC-DEN.

I'm guessing they will be using a 737-700 on ANC-DEN. Am I correct?

Regards.

According to the AA timetable, they are starting up the daily SEA-BOS service again on a 737-800 in April.

I checked OAG for this summer's schedule and UA has DEN-ANC listed nonstop. Looks like there will be some competition here. Hopefully AS does good on this route! I wonder if Hawaiian would consider DEN-HNL.....

DIA77,

United's ANC service last year was seasonal. Has that changed?

SEA-FLL? Wouldn't happen. SEA-MIA? Please AS, that would be great. Today was AA's last MIA-SEA-NRT flight, which was an AS codeshare. Daily Alaska 73G would be great. Pretty dissapointing MIA's only connection to the Pacific Northwest is AC's MIA-YVR flights. AA dropped SEA-BOS recently, but is bringing it back later this year.

Nevermind DIA77. I just checked and the United service is still seasonal but for a longer time period than last year's.

Last year's service was supposed to stop in late October but was cut short as a result of 9/11. This year, it will end in November. Not sure when it starts though.

I'm a bit surprised United decided to bring it back.

Regards.

More Info can be found at 9news.com tommarow I am sure
