Routes You Would Like To See From Your Airport...

Thu Jan 10, 2002 10:14 pm

...try and give some reasons.
From NCL:
FRA-Lufthansa Cityline Seems an obvious choice German businesses in area
CPH- Go perhaps??? CPH very popular for tourists
OSL- Wideroe Lots of Norweigans visit NCL from Oslo but have to fly via SVG
ZRH- Crossair?????
ATH- Olympic or Cronus?? Large Greek poplation in and around NCL (especially students, so maybe low-cost airline for this ???
BCN-Go Peugeout/Nissan businesses
LCY- BE Good for business travellers to London.
When you hear the noise of the Tartan Army Boys, we'll be coming down the road!

I´d like to see Mannheim connected to a real LH hub, not just THF and HAM. FRA would probably too close, but MUC would be nice. Perhaps some airline operating 19 seaters could join Team LH.

From OSL:
I would really like to see a flight to either EWR or JFK. After SAS suspended its daily flight to EWR, OSL no longer have non-stop flights to the US.

I would really like Continental to fly Houston to Bermuda direct. To fly there on Onepass miles, I would have to fly through Newark, making it a really long flight.

FZO-anywhere
FZO-somewhere
FZO-just a frickin flight!

5-10 years ago they were considering building a new £50m terminal building at FZO and turn it into a commercial airport, but the residents complained about the noise and traffic, and so it never materialized. Instead they built a Mall, which probably has 10,000 people through a day.

So much for the traffic, stupid bristolian dumbasses!

Far-fetched... but here they are:

MLA -

New York / Newark [KM had it a couple of times, but last time round, it lost Lm 0.4 M in one season]
Toronto [Was rumoured as the obvious combination for NYC (KM)]
Singapore, Kuala Lumpur [(KM, SQ?)Changi Airport is to manage MLA (?); Lots of migrants in Oz; Cargo]
Jeddah [(KM) Could explore in combi with DXB]
Canary Islands [to fly me there every other week!!]
Bahrain [used to be served in combi with DXB by KM, codesharing with GF]
Muscat [(KM) same as Jeddah]
Kuwait [(KM) same as BAH]
Algiers [(KM) A short 90 minute hop away... for connecting traffic]
Addis Ababa [(KM) for connecting traffic... ET is one of the most populated (though poor) countries in Africa]
Khartoum [(KM) same as above]
Sanaa / Aden [(KM) same as Jeddah]
Faro [(KM/TAP) to fly me there to visit my 'crazy' friends]
Madrid [KM used to fly there... ; SP v. popular with the local holidaymakers]
Barcelona [same as above...; one flight per week in July & August is kind of too little... & 'inconvenient']
Alicante [same as MAD]
Malaga [same as MAD]
Ankara [(KM) same as Faro; connecting traffic]
Pescara [(KM) connecting traffic]
Naples ["]
Bari ["]
Reggio di Calabria ["]
Bergamo [KM has its subsidiary Azzurra AIR to feed]
Alexandria [(KM) connecting traffic]
Helsinki [(KM) rumoured for a couple of years now]
Heraklion [(KM) connecting traffic; holiday travellers]
Benghazi [KM used to fly there, and I bet it was making them good money, but somehow, it was discountinued]

...Maybe if we stike oil again, some day in the future, without any bloody interference from Libya, we'll have our own Dubai & ''Emirates'' in a few decades' time!

From Maastricht:

MST-FRA (KLM-exel or Lufthansa)
MST-THF (KLM-exel or Lufthansa) (was cancelled 1 year ago)
MST-HAM (KLM-exel or Lufthansa)
MST-LHR (British Airways)
MST-MXP (KLM-exel) (cancelled due to the crisis)
MST-BCN (KLM-exel)

Frankfurt and Hamburg have the most chance of success. The MST-MUC route is quite succesfull (KLM exel, ERJ-145 3x a day) as the airport is situated closeby the german border.
Berlin and Milan were cancelled but especially Berlin would be an option. THe flight was cancelled with a yield of 20% with 4 daily ERJ-145 flights. A simple downgrade to 3 flights a day with a smaller aircraft would make quite the difference.

Well if you ask...

from BRU,

1.to Tokyo, this route was flown before by Sabena, on ANA or JAL would be nice.
2. to Hong Kong, on Cathay Pacific. CXs daughter, Air Hong Kong flys cargo to BRU.
3. to Seoul, on Asiana or Korean and perhaps on to Japan if the Japanese airlines stay away from BRU. Asiana and Korean already operate cargo flights to BRU. Asiana used to fly with combi 747s to BRU, before the Asia crisis.

How about a transatlantic from GOT? Perhaps to EWR with CO? Today all the tranatlantic passengers have to connect in ARN, CPH, LHR, FRA or another major hub.
City Airline shoiuld open a few more routes, one will probably be opened this spring, but I don't no where to yet.
How about Alitalia to LIN or MXP, or even FCO, or IB to BCN or MAD? GOT don't have many flights to southern Europe. However, all these routes except FCO are proposed by City Airline, but it would be nice to see some new carriers at GOT.

A few realistic routes from Leeds Bradford International

LBA-FRA LBA-MUC both due to the large local German population and Finance in the region
LBA-Copenhagen (can never remember the code!) Lots of trade with Scandanavia
LBA-Karachi/Lahore Large ethnic population of Pakistani's (would have to be A310's due to the runway)
LBA-PMI cos my Mom lives there and there are lots of UK expats and plenty of Spaniards here in Yorkshire

i would like to see continental begin service to EDI. It looks like this might become a reality, the airline was about to announce a service around 911, but due to the turmoil caused the plan was abandoned. Talks are now going on between BAA and CO and an announcement will hopefully be made shortly about a flight. It is unlikely to be this summer though, we might have to wait till 2003...

What i would really like to see is either BAA sell EDI to a private company, or them to stop being so biased towards GLA, and see that EDI is a far better airport, and has much higher potential.

I would also like to see any flights from carlisle, as that would be neat. I hope BA buys it and turns it into a maintance facility, that would really kick ass...

Ryanair from Cork to Hahn, Germany. Cork badly needs a low cost, direct service to Germany. The Aer Lingus flights to Frankfurt are via Dublin and I guess, pricey to boot. Also, a service from Cork to Barcelona in the summer at least by one of the Iberia franchise companies with CRJs/ERJ? For the time being the old chestnut of a direct North Atlantic service is, sadly, unrealistic.

For any of these, I would love to see Delta do it, but I'll list the other airline I would want to do it, if there is another one.

From ATL:

Hong Kong- Cathay
PEK- Air China
ICN- Korean (nonstop, they fly ATL I think with a 744, but make a stop in DFW)
SIN- Singapore Airlines (of course a stop somewhere)
CPH- SAS
ATH- Olympic
IST- Turkish
VIE- Austrian
LIS- TAP
Jeddah and Riyadh- Saudi Arabian
Tel Aviv- EL AL
BKK- Thai (stop somewhere)
Moscow- Aeroflot
Warsaw- LOT

CDG-DEN on Air France - Maybe 2 to 3 years, maybe 5 years.

NRT-DEN on ANA or JAL - EXCELENT chance of happening in the next 2 years.

AMS-DEN on KLM - I would absolutely LOVE this route, although it is unlikely.

Regards.

What Don't We Have From Lax?

Fri Jan 11, 2002 11:54 am

I think I am fully covered at LAX... I mean, between the 75 airlines that service LAX, I think I can get to just about anywhere I could imagine wanting to go.

I think we have just as many destinations as JFK - if not more.

Whereas JFK has places like Africa covered, we have Asia and the South Pacific pretty well mapped out.

A bit of wishful thinking from Kuala Lumpur:

Lagos (MH, new service via NBO)
Vancouver (MH, resumption of service, but via HKG 3x weekly with fifth freedom rights)
Toronto & Vancouver (AC, extension of existing flights to HKG, TPE, KIX or NRT)
Athens (MH, new service 777-200 nonstop)
Detroit (NW, resumption of service via NRT)
Moscow (SU, resumption of service)
Madrid (MH, resumption of service)
Chiangmai (MH, TG resumption of service)
Vientiane (MH, resumption of service)
Christchurch (MH, new service 777-200 nonstop)
Kathmandu (RA and MH, new services)
Addis Ababa (ET, new service via BKK)
San Francisco (UA, new service via HKG or NRT)

From Kansas City International (MCI):

Mexicana or AeroMexico to MEX
British Airways to London (possibly via Chicago if needed?)
Air Canada to Montreal or Vancouver (since we already have thrice daily CRJ-600s to YYZ)
CDG via Air France (seasonal, or whatever could make it a profitable route)
TACA to anywhere in Central America
Air Jamaica to Montego Bay or Kingston (probably not going to happen, any time soon at least, but I can dream can't I? same for everything above except maybe Mexicana or even BA (with a weekly schedule instead of daily).
Vanguard to SRQ, TPA, or MCO....BOS, PHX, SAN, RNO, PDX, SEA, MKE (I can't wait to see Vanguard get big, if they can hold on long enough to start making profits, they really are a good airline, just unfortunate enough to be having troubles, but I think they'll get better  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
AA to SJC, UA to IAD
more MIDEX!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I'm hoping they'll start direct MCI-MCO flights, maybe some LAX soon. We are a MidEx hub, so lets get some more flights!
JetBlue to JFK, AirTran to MCO, PIT, or PHL,
I could name so many more,  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I do see MCI having a big future, of course by then Chicago and LAX and the other "biggies" will make MCI still look like a normal airport.
