Alaska has been talking about installing IFE on their aircraft for a couple years now, but they really haven't disclosed any firm plans. So, I'd like to know if any forum members here could offer any insight as to what Alaska plans to do?
Although it doesn't matter to me very much, I do have to wonder whether IFE would improve Alaska's competitive position on routes where they compete with United, such as SFO-ANC, ORD-ANC, and SEA-IAD, and even shorter routes such as SEA-LAX and SEA-DEN.
It seems that Alaska only uses 73Gs for their long-haul flights, and so perhaps they could just install IFE on a limited number of these planes? This would obviously make aircraft scheduling a bit more difficult, but I don't think its something Alaska couldn't deal with.
