Both Women Pilots

Sat Jan 12, 2002 9:15 am

Has anyone ever been on an airline flight where BOTH pilots were female? How often does this happen? Surely once in a blue moon.

Lots of times. Aloha and Hawaiian do it all the time. I think Hawaiian had the first all female flight crew ever.

I've been on Girls only flights, with female flight crews and attendants, and flights with a female flight crew and all male attendants.

Pretty cool if you ask me.

I worked a flight a few years back at Southwest where both pilots were female; as well as all three flight attendants, the operations agent (boarding the flight), the gate agent (checking in the flight) and ramp agents loading the flight! Wish I had my camera for that one! Big grin

BoeingMD82 is correct, Hawaiian Airlines had the first all female crew almost 20 years ago, on March 6th 1979 on a Shorts SD 330 turbo prop:
CA - Sherry Emminger
FO - Karen Squyres
FA - Trudi Asada

The first all female jet crew was on a Piedmont Airlines B737-200, May 10th 1982
CA - Cheryl Faye Peters
FO - Rebecca Rose Schroeder
FA - Paula Lanier
FA - Dolly Wenat
FA - Cindy Perry

I actually once saw about 2 years ago on the news a story about flying and there were 2 female pilots flying the concorde during the flight.....captain and co-pilot. I dont remember if the flight engineer was as well female.
I just think that was cool!! And it was with BA i believe.
GDB can u confirm this?

cheers

That would be interesting. But I think it is more of a man job, thats not to get at the women pilots.

Alaskaairlines, why is it more of a man's job???

Barbara Harmer is a f/o on BA Concorde, but I think she might be a Captain now?  Big thumbs up

I've been on flights where there is a woman pilot, either f/o or Captain, but not an all-women crew as far as I know, but I think it would be great!  Big thumbs up

I flew UAL from EWR to DEN, A319, both pilots female, and the rest of the crew was female as well. Didn't bother me a bit!

I've been on a VS A340 with an all female flight deck crew. I think it's great and I wasn't the slightest bit bothered.
Not only was she captain (I've forgotten her's and the FO's name now), she was Fleet manager or chief A340 pilot or something like that. Had me in the J/S for landing into heathrow. (this was in 2000). Showed me all the bells and whistles on the plane and was hospitable. I was truly appreciative.
