Crossair was nice. Why do they want to change the name ? Ok, Swissair cant be use anymore for legal reason but not Crossair. I'm sad cause i think the new company will lost the "Crossair spirit"...

"Air Switzerland" is not pretty... Why not "Air Cheese" ??? Come on, it's ridiculous...

I think that some people who were responsible for the SR "fiasco" just want to take control of the new company... So sad...

What is wrong with Air Switserland? Sounds a lot better than Crossair. Crossair and its looks reminds me more on a flying ambulance than an airline.

According to a poll by a local paper, out of the 30 or so names that have been nominated, the most popular one is "Swiss Airlines".

Funny enough, the 2nd place (with about 20%) was given to "Troudair" which phonetically sounds like "trou d'air" which means turbulance (literally air hole).

Who says we Swiss don't have a sense of humor?

Sorry Manni, but Air Switzerland really looks too old, like in the 70's you know !

"Gruyair" looks also funny for those who understand french...

Hello

In my opinion Air Switzerland and Air Swiss sound very cheap. They want to be a quality airline, they should have a unique name such as Swiss World Airways.

As a Crossair fan I would like to see Crossair of course but I think that they already lost a part of the Crossair spirit!

Oh, do you really think so RJ ? Why ?

By the way everyone, why is the title of the topic "SR new name" ? SR doesnt exist anymore. The title should be "New name for the new swiss national carrier" Huh ?

Rey777: Since Moritz Suter left the company a lot of things changed (or will change). You probably agree that the old Crossair was a great company. Why? Because of the people that worked at Crossair. Now the board changed and all those people are Swissair influenced by Rainer E. Gut who was sitting in the old SR board. He was the one that wanted to buy Sabena and you know what happened then...

In Tages Anzeiger, the 2nd biggest newspaper in Switzerland, the result of the poll was
1.) Swiss Airlines
2.) Swissair
3.) Crossair

Wanna bet, that Swiss Airlines makes the race?

Maybe Rainer E. Gut could buy Swisswings ( a small Swiss carrier; not doing too bad) and destroy them (like he destroyed SR and LX) and take their name!

The airline would be called Swiss Airlines (highly original, and very elegant...) but the titles on planes would read "SWISS";

Why not simply "Hot Air"?

Whatever the new name shall be, I hope that a brave and spectacular livery is used. I would love to see something more vibrant and colourful on the MD-11!

When will an announcement be made? Does anyone have any heads-up on the livery?

Under http://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois one can check potential domain names.

Swissairways.com, swissairlines.com, airswitzerland.com and airswiss.com are all registered by persons who do not seem to be affiliated with the new company...

Unfortunately I don't know how to check records ending with .ch. Anyone?

I agree with SFOintern , Swiss Airways is a better alternative... It suits British Airways in case of an alliance or a membership in Oneworld , which I'm sure will happen...

with www.nic.ch you are able to chk swiss (.ch) domains...

I'm going for Swiss Airlines/Airways and the simple reason why they can't use Crossair is in my opinion that Crossair is well know in Europe but not so in oversea. I think it is important to have the name "Swiss" in their new name and Switzerland there is no sence.

I'm sure there are people who would like to call the new Airline Air Swedish, isen't it? Just for our friends outside Europe. (of course not all of you).

Oh, there is one thing. I really would prefer Swiss Airways iso Swisshansa or something like this. Please don't go for the 2nd...

All these possible domains (SvenvdM wrote some of them) are registred by people who later want to sell this domain to the new company, that's the point.

I think Swisslines will be the new name...but we'll see.

Rey777 - Crossair can't be used, because Arab countries wouldn't allow Crossair to land there. The place where the infidel was strung up sitting on the fuselage? Sorry mate, not allowed.
You think I'm joking? I'm afraid not. It's hard enough for Swissair as it is - I believe they have to turn the tail light off on the deck in Riyadh and elsewhere, but to have the word "Cross" is a step too far.

A little Saudia Airlines story: a long time, it was noticed that Saudia's insignia contained the image of a cross between the S and the A (if you looked carefully enough). This was not acceptable and the entire corporate logo was re-worked to remove it.

I read in a swiss newspaper (La Tribune) that they would take two names. One for marketing reason and one for legal reason to avoid problems linked to Swissair bankruptcy.
