First Experience In First Or Business Class

Thu Jan 17, 2002 9:28 am

On Feburary 2nd, I'm flying first class for the first time ever. I'm flying on a NW DC-9-50. Any opinions on NWA's first class or your first experiences in first/business class.

Where are you flying? That will determine what the extent of the food service.

I like NWA's first class, although first class on a DC9 isn't much. Seats are not that comfortable but the service should be fine. I like how NW configures the front of their DC9 cabins (galley/restroom area). NWA's glassware is very cool - identical to KLM's. Maybe you can "borrow" a piece to take with you... Big grin

I flew NW F only once CLE-DTW on a DC-9. I think I had 5 Cokes before we pushed back.

Really ILS?? Why don't you describe the seats to us... what do they look like? What color are they? Are they leather or cloth?

I have flown 1st class from STL-PDX-ANC on TWA 757, and it was the St. Louis rams jet. I liked it a lot, great seats and great service.

I flew first class on a Qantas flight from Melbourne to LAX, 14 hours. This was in a full sleeper seat, 14 seat in total in the nose section , which include, a video players, personal TV, unlimited leg room, horizontal seat for sleeping etc. The service was excellent, but has gone down since.

I'm going First class again from Aus to LAX in April with Qantas, and then flying on AA to Fayetteville AR. What can I expect flying on AA

My first 1st class experience was back in 1988 when I flew to New York for Easter on an AC b727. I was running late due to heavy long weekend traffic and arrived at the gate 5 min before they closed it. Beacuse they had finished boarding I was upgraded to 1st class. So, instead of sitting in the back snacking on peanuts, I was seated in the third row dining on smoked salmon (yum yum).

I was on an AC A330 just last week flying Executive First. I was upgraded from Economy out of YUL. Although it was really nice, i don't think that it would have been worth the ticket price.
The seats were really spacious, only bad thing was that my personal tv screen did not work, but i was given one of those small sony players and a seletion of tapes.
Dinner wa also nice but breakfast seemed to be a little rushed before we landed. When you fly, don't forget to go to the airport early and get access to the lounge. I was there for almost 3 hrs (there wasn't a thing to do for me anyway) and enjoyed it  Smile

Depending on where you are going, you should get some food on your flight in first class, I think their seats are the most comfortable. Enjoy your flight!

my first experience with first class was today, looking at a ticket of a trip did a CEO of my company from BCN to DUS (2hours). it cost 1100€!!! with that money I could fly to Hong Kong or further!!! I would be very angry if I pay that and don't take an more-than-excelent service!!

I find it normal for a 14h. flight, but only for 2 hours...

MSPMan, regardless of aircraft type, flying F is fun. The DC-9-30s, at least have been revamped inside with a MD-95 (now 717) style cabin (bigger bins, etc.). The seats are sleek-looking but the cushions are a bit thin. The forward lavs have been modified with an attractive marbelized material.

Could a real expert tell us which of these upgrades (seats, bins, etc.) has been applied to the fleet of DC-9-50s?

My first experience was 12 years ago as a private in the Army. I was going to be stationed in South Korea and Northwest put me in business class on the LAX-SEL flight. For an 18 year old, it had a big impact on me and consequently, I always try to give NW business. Not too hard considering I'm living in the Twin Cities now.

All the NW DC9s look like 717 inside.

Big overhead bins, curved walls and ceiling, new seats, granite counters in the bathrooms, handrail under the overhead bins on both sides, inseat phones.

On Northwest, I've enjoyed First Class on the B757 (old config), DC - 9 - 10, DC - 9 - 30, and the -50.... I enjoy the larger seat, but they aren't as plush as other airlines' First Class products... but at least you get more legroom than in coach...

first trip in First Class was when I was 17, just after the closing ceremonies of the Republican National Convention in San Diego... flew in a United 757 up front to Denver... I was booked at that point.... last year, 75% of my flights were done up front... so far for the year, all of my segments have been in confirmed United First or Business ... and Alaska just sent me a confirmed r/t First Class upgrade.. heh :P :P :P
