End Of An Era-- AC DC9

Thu Jan 17, 2002 9:41 am

Hello everybody,

just wanted to note, in light of earlier threads about this the past few months, this little update a few days ago from the Air Canada Pilots Union website. Even if those last two aircraft get put into revenue service, transiting to YUL as mentioned, looks like it may indeed be the end of an era, at AC and for Canadian air passenger travel.

So a brief salute, for

Lots of memories. I remember flying in an AC 9 to YYC, back in the very early 70s. Might've been in one of these, too  Smile )

Cheers

Hi!

Yes, it's the end of a nice canadian era the DC-9 with Air Canada. Fortunetly I had the oportunity of seeing at least one of them last summer on the way to take-off at PHL. I was inside BA 747-400 G-BYGG when I saw leaving an Air Canada DC-9 and I said to myself - "Gee, these guys still fly high after all these years!" - it was the last time I saw it!

End of an era, indeed. In an earlier discussion, I had mentioned I had flown the DC-9 a few times, to North Bay/Timmins, Halifax, Ottawa. Three of these flights I took when skipping off high school, flying out in the morning and returning back home for dinner! LOL. So the Air Canada DC-9 has a very special place in my heart.

Adios, Old Amigo.

Not more than a few weeks ago we said goodbye to the remaining SAS DC-9s. Those were real aircraft - not these modern computer things  Laugh out loud

Canadi>nBoy: Aren´t you supposed to be on your way over here soon??? Don´t forget the lovely bottles... and bring the sun!! It is still foggy over here!!!

Cheers

Does anyone know anything about the Air Canada DC-9 that was flying around in Europe? This was at least 10 years ago.

that's funny Canadi>nBoy because I thought about doing the same thing, going to Toronto or NY in the morning and come back in the afternoon (instead of going to school).

Oh well, I wish I had the money.

The ACPA website listed above shows 4 of the DC-9's in storage, but doesn't say where.

C-FTMF, C-FTMW, C-FTMB, and C-FTMU

Can we assume that they are stored at YUL, or are they going to North Bay?

Are they planning a water cannon salute or something like that or are thet going to go out "quietly". I think they should have a "retirement" party, it would be good publicity and the pilots and aircraft deserve it.

I was at YUL last weekend and saw what looked like about 10 DC9's parked. Most had their titles removed. I assume these will get ferried to North Bay sometime soon although quite a lot of them have been parked in the same spot since December or perhaps even November.

In college, I always remember seeing the trusty little(compared to the jumbos lined up next to it) AC Nine at it's stand at the far end of BOS Logan's International terminal. Always looked ready to rock & roll, in summer sunshine or winter darkness...(and that was in the awful 1980's scheme. )
