A318 Cabin Width

I know the A318 shares commonality with the A320 family, but it looks a little skinny. Is it going to seat 6 abreast? I heard somewhere it would be 5 abreast but I'm not sure if its true. Does anyone know?

If it didn´t have the same cross-section, it wouldn´t be a member of the A320 family. I think it looks rather stubby, with oversized wings and wheels. Really like a baby-bus.  Big thumbs up

(basically, except for the whizzy laser-weld techniques and choice of body materials, PW6000 engine option and minor modifications to systems, it's supposed to be an A319 "minus 5 (fuselage) frames". So, same 12-ft cabin cross-section, as always)

It would have been 5 abreast in a Midwest Express configuration if they had chosen this as their new aircraft.

The 5-abreast configuration that you heard about was the 70-85 seat Airbus A31E program that was being considered as a JV with the Chinese Govt. It would have been a regional jet to compete for the Fokker 70 replacement requirement.

BTW, Wasnt that project cancelled?

The Airbus A318 is essentially a shortened A319 (which itself is a shortened A320!) with a new engine, and as such has the same cabin-width and 6-across layout of its larger sisters.
