LH And AF 744s- All Combis?

Thu Jan 17, 2002 11:12 am

Are all of Lufthansa's 744s the combi version? If not, what routes do the combis fly and what routes do the non-combis fly? Also, same with Air France 744s. Thanks!

I've seen a few AF B747-400 with the rear "combi" cargo door, however they were all operated in full passenger configuration for 393 pax. This was however during the summer, and we have not had any 744's all winter here at JFK, so not really sure if it was a seasonal thing or not. But yes, AF does have 744's that are not combi.

All Air France and Lufthansa B747-400 are operated in an all passenger confuguration. However some of the aircraft originally operated as combis but has since been changed. As far as I recall AF had 5 combis delivered (F-GISA,-GISB,-GISC,-GISD & -GISE) + one (F-GEXB) taken over when AF aquired UTA while Lufthansa had 7 (D-ABTA,-ABTB,-ABTC,-ABTD,-ABTE,-ABTF.-ABTH)! But again, all now operate as all passenger aircraft!

Cheers

Hi;

I am an PSA working on some Air France flights out of YUL, and the 744 is the regular visitor here.
I have yet to see a Combi, as all the aircraft have the standard 744 configuration of 13P 58J 321Y.

Hello,

Would anyone kno when Lufthansa converted its 747-400Ms please?

On what routes did they use them on?

Thank you,

Best regards,

RE: LH combi routes - different to say, they never indicated Combi or all pax in the timetable. TPE was always Combi (because the plane painted in Condor colours to trick the Chinese was a combi), I know people who were on BOG-CCS and NRT flights that were combis.

There were still the LH 747-400M flying about one or two years ago. I remember that I've seen one or two during one of my last visits to FRA in 2001 or 2000. It was bound for HKG.

The flight to Mexico City is often done by an old combi.LH498/499.

I used to fly with a 747-430 (SCD) from FRA to EZE back in 1997.

In August 2000 I flew SFO-FRA on D-ABTF, which was built as a combi but it already had been converted to an all-passenger aircraft.
