SQ Flights Questions To BALI.

Fri Jan 18, 2002 12:41 am

Hi there,

I should be going to Bali in may with Singapore Airlines.
On the CRS and SQ website they say that they fly with the A343 Celestar and the A313 to DPS. My question is:
Isn't the Celestar retired of the SQ fleet ?? Didn't SQ use to fly to DPS with the 777 ??
Do you think I will really get an A343 on the SIN-DPS leg ?
Anyway, can someone tell me which side of the aircraft is the best one for the SIN-DPS leg as I've heard that one side offers an amazing view when landing in BALI.

Thanks to all for the answers and help !!!

I honestly can't remember which side was the best, we were unfortunately stuck in the middle!

But do get a window, as you pass a lot of small islands, viewable from both sides, on the approach.

We flew down and back on an A310, probably one of the cleanest and most fragrant A310's I've ever flown-however, there are no PTV's fitted.

I have flown both A310 and B777 from SIN to DPS several times.

I have been on Bali 8 times where we among others have been staying in Sanur. Here we can the planes take off from DPS. And the last 2-3 years SIA has used A340 on the 14.00 departure.

I have also been flying SIA A340 and B747 many times.

Which plane is the best into Bali ? I dont think there is that much different in landing with a A310, A340 or B777.

Have a nice stay there

I found that sitting on the right-hand side of the aircraft provided the most spectacular views on both takeoff and landing at DPS.

Here's a shot climbing out of DPS aboard a SQ 777-300 headed back to SIN.

Thanks for the great pic ChrisSDKF !!!

Well for such a journey, the type of plane doesn't really matter as long as you fly SQ !! But I'd have preffered an A343 or a 777 to a A313...

Anyway does someone know the fate of the SQ A343's ?

Depends on the wind conditions!
If you're going to approach rwy 27 at DPS the left side gives you an amazing view over Bali!
Coming to rwy 09 you cross the volcanos north of Bali so the right side would be better. But if you sit on the left you can see Lombok!
As far as i remember most of the times they use rwy09. not sure about that I landed on 27 and took off from 09!

The B777, A340 and the A310 all fly there. Actually it depends, SQ has a 'habit' of changing the aircraft at the very last minute. But for the pass days most of the flights are operated by an A340.

For a flight to/from SIN,

Left side is a safer bet. On landing to 09, you get to see Kuta Beach. If you use 27, you'll see Tanjung Benoa/Nusa Dua that Chris KSDF took.

Sitting on the right would give Jimbaran Beach and Benoa Harbour on 09 and 27 respectively. Too far away.

For approach, left is better, because if you use 09, you'll go down the whole of the western side of Bali for the approach, on your left (right is just pure sea). If you use 27, there are 3 ways they would do this... circle the north east of Bali (island on the right, Lombok in the distant left), or go on the downwind between the airfield and the mountains (left you get the mountains, right you get the airfield and city), or you circle around the south peninsula (then sit on the left).

But for take off, sit on the right, you'll get a good view  Smile
