Do Airline CEOs Ever Consider Looks Of Aircraft?

Well do they?
With any business, it all comes down to how much profit will an aircraft rake in against operating cost. Do any ever consider looks?
Some aircraft/livery combination is just absolutely beautiful while some look hideous!

Is it just a coincidence that the Olympic A340 is just one of the must beautiful birds in the sky? Is it a coincidence that the CO 777 is just so dull and boring on the outside?

I might as well insult your taste also Smile Cause your taste is pretty bad!! Even though I like the looks of just about any airplane, I think many will agree than a CO 777 looks 30 times better than that Olympic Scarebus. My votes went towards TWA's new paint but we wont be seeing them too much longer. Oh well

To go back to a rather inane topic, I believe a "real CEO" would consider, or more likely rubber-stamp a colour-scheme to fit in with the overall branding / image of the airline.

I cannot see them debating at length the aesthetic merits of an aircraft, over the economics of it though. IMHO, it would be worrying to work in a company led by a CEO like that.

Okay, people

First, Superfly - you made a response to your own post which reads, and I quote "I hope never changes there paint scheme." You might have included an airline's name in there so we know who it is you hope never changes their scheme.

Second, as everyone else said you have your uglies and your beautifuls backwards!!!

Third, the REASON Southwest changed their colors was because they got a new CEO and she said "Gee. Barf brown is ugly." So yes, it does happen.

Fourth, you do have bad taste. Continental's livery is like Saudi Arabians - simple, mellow, yet rich and flavorful, if you will. It is a very peaceful, complete, and "wholesome" looking set of colors. Professional yet casual. British Airways most people agree needs the crown back on the tail, but of all the world tails to choose to call ugly you've taken my 2nd favorite. If Chelsea Rose was up there I would be sending you hate-EMails by now (well, no I wouldn't, but...) the one you've chosen is one of the most beautiful sets of colors ever applied to an aircraft's tail. I know the name but not how to spell it, but anyway, it's an awesome paint job (or decal job as the case may be).

Well SIA has airbus tweaking their scheme at the moment to look better on SIAs fleet (most prob. A380)

Well... Take a look at Sri Lankan. I wonder who designed this beautiful color scheme. Simple, yet colorful and expressive.

CO is not too bad, yet not too good. AA's-and this is no insult, is ugly. Looks like they ran out of paint! I love Air Canada's color.

Overall, it seems that CEO's in Asia have better taste than those in the US  Smile

To answer the question, I don't think they do: otherwise the 777 (which isn't a bad looking aircraft, in all fairness - and I like the CO aircraft!) would not have outsold the A340 by so much. I can just see them going airplane shopping and comparing colour schemes and shades; no, I'm afraid it's down to hard economics - cost, fuel consumption, range.

Of course, it's also said that if it looks good, it'll fly well. Aerodynamics has quite a bit to do with economics and sleekness helps. However, I have to say the A340 is the sleekest airplane in the world; most polls here put it top or in the top 2 or 3. Look at SAS, LAN, Cathay, China Airlines and SIA . . . all hugely attractive - and on the A340, a perfect combination!

Shame Over Vanguard CEOs Decision

This is definitely the most devaluated livery change ever! Shame over the CEO's decision. Bad taste and no own style, looks like a second hand cheap start-up airline! This is just throwing away an identity. Poor Vanguard.

But hey, I recognize this CEO's behaviour as I sometimes have to defend my designs. Finally they could overrule my designs and than I think; okay, the client means King to me... but not to every price. If an airline is pushing me to a very bad choice and design direction I will quit the order.

I have to agree that the Green-Tailed 737 above is is not my favorite design. It makes the plane look fat & stubby. BUT, on an MD-80 series Aircraft, I think Vanguard's new scheme is awesome; sleek looking and unique. It was originally designed for the MD-80's as they enter the fleet, the 737's will be phased out and I don't know of any others that will be delivered in that color scheme... I believe that the only reason the above 737 is painted the way it is, is because it was delivered after the re-branding had started. It is being called a "transition aircraft" and will remain in the fleet until the other 737's are phased out & the rest of the MD-80's arrive.

I would think so... Being a hopefull airline CEO I personally think that the paint has a whole lot to say about your airline... The main reason why I'm saying that it is the way you paint your planes reflect the typ of business you do IE, If you have a wacky airline why not paint your plane a wacky color... And if you have a conservative airline paint it that boring white way!

What looks professional and nice to one, doesn't to another. The satisfaction airline nuts like us get out of new and current liveries of an airline are the CEO's least worries, especially right now...

Agree the red one looks a bit better but the "V" initial on tailfin looks like if the CEO designed it himself in 5 minutes. The same remark counts for Midwest Express tailfin design. New Vanguard; poor and devaluated. What a pitty.

I respectfully disagree. I don't particularly care for the green 737, but all the MD80's, especially the maroon one, look great. I can't wait to see the new colors in person. I know they'll be great.

Not quite correct. The old CEO announced the change in color and the FIRST CEO (Lamar Muse) said at the last shareholders meeting that he took away the thunder of every new CEO, who always seems to change the color of the planes. FWIW, the new CEO is a also guy.
