El Al Questions

Sat Jan 19, 2002 7:02 am

Has anyone flown El Al from NYC-TEL, or on their 747-400's or 777's? If so, what is it like in economy class? Comfortable? Personal TV's? What are the seats like? Is it the best choice if traveling to Israel, or is Continental on the 777 better? Looking foward to your responses.

I know for sure that El Al's 747-400s and 777s have PTV, yet the 747-200s, which sometimes fly between JFK/EWR-TLV do not. I know a lot of people who fly El Al to Israel and are very happy with them. Another thing, if you have any doubts about flying to what might not be the safest country, or just about flying in general, El Al's aircraft are the safest in the sky.

There are no 742's in pax service with LY at the moment, so you have nothing to fear  Laugh out loud Besides, LY hasn't flown them on their own trans-atlantic routes in months. The 762's on the other hand... I'm not sure, but CO does have less seats on their 772's, so you may get more legroom with them, but the seat width should be the same. And as Aio86 mentioned, security on LY is great, although I believe you have to be in the airport earlier than for other airlines (as if more airport time could be a bad thing! Big grin).

Are you going to fly with LY Alitalia777, or are you just curious?

Just Curious, LY744. Even though I think it would be an amazing country to visit. I'm in highschool right now, and have traveled to Italy from the US with one of my past teachers. I recently found another group tour from the same company to Israel for a very reasonable price. It won't be possible until it becomes more stable. I just like to look and see what airlines the company has to choose from, most likely they choose nonstop flights. So either El AL or Continental.

Are the LY777's better than the 747-400's, or vice versa. Why?

Dear Alitalia777,

El Al does offer PTVs on all 744s and 777s, but not on 762s.
LY Economy pitch is 32" in the 744 and 31"-32" in the 777.
Around April all 744s and 772s will offer the same;
The 744s would get new seats with in-seat phone, infligths games etc', on the other hand, the 777s would have a new seating cofiguration with 32"-33" pitch.
Also both types will get a new C/class and the 744 would get a new F/class, more info later...

As for your question between CO and LY, LY is different, it would be much more interesting and besides, by taking LY you can enjoy both the 744 and the 772.... think about that...

LY doesnt operate pax 742 anymore and the last flight between TLV and JFK/EWR with 742 was few days after 11SEP when there was need for extra capacity on that route...

Any other questions? Smile

Thanks El Al 001,
I am just curious now, but it wouldn't be my choice of what airline to choose anyway, that is whatever the tour company can get cheapest. It could very well be British Airways or American to LHR, then British Airways to TLV.
