The only news Asian route that Air Canada introduced was to Shanghai.

I don't think Air Canada has introduced any other new Asian routes, since they acquired the old ones operated by Canadian Airlines.

Hong Kong
Seoul
Taipei
Beijing
Shanghai
Osaka
Tokyo
Tel Aviv

It looks like they didn't take up the YVR-BKK route that CP used to operate. I think that's it for Asia and AC. Someone will of course correct me if I have erred. I think I heard Air Canada was considering Delhi service, but don't know if that is much more than mere talk.

Manila is a low-yielding VFR market. Not a high priority for AC but it would seem to be in the 'top 3' of possible new Asian destinations.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Manila is in Air Canada's future plans. There is no specific date at this time.

SIN

Tue Jan 22, 2002 2:07 pm

I remember when AC first acquired CP, Robert Milton was saying that he is planning to add SIN, but now I guess it will only happen when AC gets its A340-500s, then they will fly YYZ-HKG and YVR-SIN non-stop.

I don't think Tel Aviv is in Asia, the last time I checked!  Smile

Didn't Canadian say that they wanted to serve Guangzhou, China a while back?

Correct. Asia actually begins on the east side of the Bosphorus in Istanbul. TLV is east of that.

There was a press release last week on how KE was asking for AC to increase their frequency to ICN in anticipation of seat shortage resulting from World Cup. KE wants to buy seats on AC operated flights, but the talks have just commenced so it's a long shot.

Guangzhou

Wed Jan 23, 2002 12:04 pm

Guangzhou, China is another good Asia pacific destination, I think. It is almost like Shanghai, very fast developping, and a lot of the rich businesses are going from Hong Kong to Guanzhou. I guess the only problem is that it is too far away from Canada as it is actually really really close to Hong Kong. And the only aircraft that is capable of flying to such a long distance destination is I guess A340 and B744 in AC's fleet. I guess there is the demand, but not that much that they can used at least an A340 on it, maybe a B767 will do just like what AC is using on its PVG and PEK. But I guess even a B763ER version can't fly that far to Guangzhou. Anyways, just my opinion!  Smile

I knew that whole Tel Aviv in Asia would throw some for a loop, thats why I loved plugging it in. The Middle East is really Western Asia.
