Quick Help Please: Which A/c Does VS Use To Newark

Wed Jan 23, 2002 5:36 am

Hi!

Quick question: Which aircraft types does Virgin Atlantic operate to New York Newark? Am I correct in assuming that most/all flights are typically operated by 744s? Which ones aren't?

I need your help rather urgently, because I have seats on hold, and whether I book them or not depends mostly on the type of a/c...

Thanks a lot in advance

Regards

Well, all recent Virgin pictures at EWR in the database show the 744, so i guess all flights will be on that...

Errr, thanks guys. But their website has a policy of not listing plane types for routes, as they are somewhat flexible - and pictures are not 100% evidence. For example, I strongly suspect that the return flight, an 8am departure, would be an A340....

Is there anyone here who

a) spots frequently at Newark and has a good idea of equipment used
b) knows Virgin Atlantic well enough to tell me which types
or c) can provide reliable information from reliable sources?

Carduelis:
Do you mean "it leaves Newark in the afternoon" or "it leaves London in the afternoon" when you say afternoon flight? But thanks for the info - I wasn't quite aware of the Continental codeshare. I think I am not affected, as I was told both flights are out of / to LHR...

Better give more details: I am interested in flights VS 001 and VS 018

I know that VS001 was a 744 last summer - but I have no more recent information than that...

Cheers

travel.yahoo.com

put in your travel dates, and select virgin as the airline. It should tell you flight numbers, times AND aircraft.. Last time I checked, Virgin had 2 daily departures from EWR, one with a 747-400 and one A340, although the equipment used on each flight on each day varied..

Look at your Topic Header - or do you want something else?
I have given you the details of VS001.
I can't find a VS018, but VS3019/CO019 to Newark is the afternoon flight that I also mentioned, departing 1400.
If you have a flight on hold, I would imagine you have at least some knowledge of the departure time - and, dare I mention it, the departure airport.
FYI - VS departs LHR, and CO leaves from LGW.

Thanks, guys! The yahoo link helped a lot, and Carduelis' tip about VS001 seems correct. Also, Donder10 seems right - the VS018 flight is listed as 747 in yahoo.

Too bad VS001 is no longer a 744. What a pity. I think I'll miss out on that offer, then....

Anyway: You just saved me a lot of money (and annoyance), so thanks a LOT!

They use to fly the 744 there all the time but for the last few months I have only been seeing their Airbus 343 at Newark. I have the 'pleasure' of flying through EWR twice a week and haven't seen the 744 since probably middle last fall.

I do enjoy the 'No way BA/AA!' slogan painted on their Airbii.
