Which City Will Get NWA's Last DC9?

Wed Jan 23, 2002 6:07 am

When the sad time comes, and NWA retires its mighty fleet of lovly DC9 a/c, which city (not a hub city) do you think will be served by the DC9 until the last days.

My guess will be Bismarck since NWA (not counting NW Airlink) only opperates the DC9 into this city.

I would have to say AUS. We don't get anything new, except Frontier's A319!

I would guess that STL, if not the last city, will be one of the last cities that gets Northwest DC-9 service. Except for a Bae-146 flight, Northwest only brings DC-9's into STL.

I'd say MOT, Minot International.... all they have is ONE airline, North West and ONE aircraft being opperated there, the DC-9.. (30s, and occasional 40s and 50s)

What's the hell is this? NWA isn't planning to retire the 9s for a LONG TIME...If they have a plan, it could changed by the time they really retiring the DC9 down the road!!

Did I miss something?

Northwest retiring its DC-9s? I haven't even heard of a replacement aircraft yet and people are talking about its last flight?

i think tg747-300 was just wondering what people think NW will do when the retirement does come.

I think the last 9 flight for NW is somewhere at least 2 years down the line, possibly closer to 5.

I think they should do something really out of the ordinary with a DC9, like run the MSP-AMS service with it. Maybe do an "around-the-world" farewell or something. Yeah.  Smile

When the time comes for MW to retire the DC-9s I think the last city to have DC-9 service will be ATL. It is the site of their DC-9 MX base, acquired in the Republic merger, and is really the spiritual home of NW's DC-9s since many of them entered service with Southern (which later merged with North Central to form Republic), and NW's oldest DC-9s are Southern's DC-9s.

I live in ND and most of the planes NW flies in here is DC-9's. But I am saying the last city to be served by the DC-9 will be Fargo ND (FAR).

NWA ARJ. don't you think that Minot or Bismarck is more likely to get the last DC9?
Fargo is already served by the A319/20 aswell as the DC9, while BIS and Minot oly get the DC9.

BTW: An Airbus @ Bis would look strange

Also do you live in Fargo or Moorhead?

A bit off topic, but one of SAS' old DC-9's is on its way to the US. The only problem is that you have to become a criminal to see it. Yup, it has been sold to the US Marshals to transport prisoners  Big thumbs up

Well we occassioally get the 319/320 but it is only around hollidays. We mostly see the DC-9 and an ARJ once or twice a day

What is everybody's problem with Tg747 posting this? Nobody's saying anything about NW retiring the nines tomarrow, or the exact date which it will. We're just speculating; what the hell is wrong with that? That is what is wrong with this site--people like "Amtrackguy" don't have anything else to do but sit around and wait to bash on someone for just asking a simple question. Get a life, Amtrack.

Now, that being said, I would agree with Saint Louis for the last -32. Doesn't Montreal get all -50 flights? I would place them as the city for the last -50 niner. I certainly would agree with Bismark, Minot, and good ol' Saginaw. Being a native however, I would have to say good ol' Billings, MT.
