It is, for me, a dissapointment to see someone aquire something new, only to loose it shortly afterwards for whatever reasons. Having experienced personal bankruptcy, I know the feeling. I'm sure C3's employees were proud of that aircraft when it arrived. Now, there's nothing but sadness and/or anger.... with a bit of hope, too, I suppose.
I hope #395 has a good life with Air Tahiti Nui.

p.s. To all those anti C3 members: My thoughts lie with the aircraft. This is not a chest beating, chart topping pro Canada 3000 post. So, please, do not attack my sentiments.

Thank you.

Well said AWspicious!!! I feel the same way too. I didn't even know that C3 gave up the A340. So what are they coming back with? Anyone Know?

Does anybody know what the AC configuration was with C3000 and what it will be with Nui????? Also does anybody have any experience with Air Nui??? Is it a 3 class config and what are their cabins like??? Did C3000 have a 2 class config on this A340?

Air Tahiti Nui's A340-200 is in a 2 class layout.

Both Air Tahiti Nui's A340-300s were built for Sabena, one hasn't even entered service (F-WWJC/385) and the other is the one that Canada 3000 briefly operated (C-GZIA/395)

Both these new aircraft will feature the following layout;
F6 C24 Y264.

Both aircraft will be delivered soon on 7 year leases from ILFC, and once both are on strength the A340-200 they currently operate will return to Airbus.

The A340-300 with Canada 3000 was delivered in Sabena configuration, with Canada 3000 soft furninshings and carpets.

Don't forget. The aircraft was ORIGINALLY destined for Sabena. The above message can just as well be used for (ex) Sabena staff too. It was also a strange sight to see the A340 in Canada 3000 colors in Brussels when it could of been in the Sabena colors instead. I'm sure ex-Canada 3000 employees are thinking the same when they see the aircraft in Air Tahiti Nui colors.  Crying

Here's an article from Flight International's 11-17 December issue:

Air Tahiti Nui takes on ex-Sabena A340s

Despite the fate of their two previous intended owners, Polynesian carrier is to acquire two replacement aircraft

French Polynesian carrier Air Tahiti Nui will acquire two new Airbus A340-300s, and return its single leased A340-200 after the second -300 arrives.

The three-year-old carrier says that its board of directors has approved the acquisition of the new aircraft for delivery in the first quarter of next year.

The first of the two 294-seaters will be purchased from Airbus with financial support from the French and the French Polynesian governments. The second is scheduled to be leased from International Lease Finance (ILFC) for seven years.

Both aircraft were originally destined for Sabena, which was declared bankrupt last month. They were then both assigned to ILFC which was to lease them to the now-defunct Canada 3000. The airline says its balance sheet "will be very favourably impacted due to the excellent financial terms negotiated".

The carrier is finalising its 2002 summer schedule but will maintain all current services. It operates from its base at Papeete to Auckland, Los Angeles, Osaka and Tokyo.

It plans to add a fourth weekly Los Angeles service in March, a third weekly Japan flight in April and to launch twice-weekly Los Angeles-Paris services when French government approval is obtained.

Air Tahiti Nui says that it is maintaining "good system-wide seat factors" despite the severe industry downturn following the 11 September terrorist attacks in the USA, adding that it expects to carry 180,000 passengers next year, which is 60% more than the this year.
