The New Airline: Swiss Airlines

Fri Jan 25, 2002 3:24 am

Hi,
A newspaper the "Basler Zeitung" published the new name for the former Swissair/Crossair today. Swiss Airlines! It hasn`t confirmed by the managment, I`m sure it will be the new name. Also the MD-11 should be replaced by about 10 LH A 340-300 this year and LH crews should fly them until the swiss crews are ready for the new aircraft. Problably it will be a trade, 13 MD-11 to LH Cargo, and 10 A 340-300 for Swiss Airlines. I know that the MD-11 are PW powered and LH`s are GE, don`t know more about it.

Regards

Here we go again... taking a media press relase for gospel. It was made very clear by the Crossair people that they could "not confirm nor deny" that the new name was Swissairlines. Without confirmation, you really don't know. So don't start off on a tangent when we really don't know the truth.

Maybe they call it Swiss Airlines, maybe not. But that LH deal sounds really unrealistic to me. LH Cargo currently faces overcapacities, plus the GE/PW problem you mentioned. Why should SR pay LH for operating an A340 fleet, they have got more than enough own crews, and btw isn't there a commonality (spelling?) between those A340s and SR's existing A330 fleet?

The whole article doesn't sound very serious. Sorry, but I'm waiting for a reliable source to confirm that message, otherwise I call it nonsense.

This romour is around for 2 weeks or so now.

LH could replace the A343s with A346...
LH was trying to get more MD11s for some time, actually LH is still pissed that Boeing stopped producing it.
The new SR will need their A330 pilots for their A330s *g*. SR is doing the so called 26/26 project - 26 A32S short-haul, 13 A330 & 13 MD-11.
SR was very unsatisfied with their MD11s, because they "burn" money like hell ... MD11 are only profitable on cargo routes. The A340-300s would be a much better plane for the new SR. And LH still can get cheap A340-600s. You remember, Airbus said they are very confident that they can sell the unassigned A346s to Lufthansa.

I think the article of the Basler Zeitung is right...

I did say a month or so ago that they will be called Swiss.

As for the A340-300's that would be fantastic. It also makes great sence. Maybe LH will take some A346's ahead of the planned delivery dates to replace the A343's going to Swiss ?

They will look like Delta: Swiss Air Lines. I donno what difference is there between Airlines and Air Lines!! Anyways, I won't trade the name Swissair for any other name: not even mine! I hope they name it Swissair again.

OD-BWH,

the new swiss airline will not keep swissair. the main reason is that if they decide to keep it, companies and airlines that swissair owes money to will file many lawsuits against them for money they are owed.

Of course they will not re-name it Swissair. I've heared that it might have two names: one for trading (for pax i.e.), the other for legal affairs. I would beleive they will call it New Swissair, or Swissair 2, bla bla...

I have already seen a pic of an MD-80 in the new scheme without titles. A friend of mine in ZRH shot it during taxi last week after being pulled out of the hangar.

OD-BWH- how is it like Delta? I guess you didnt hear/notice.. the last scheme changed also was a name change.. they arent officialy Delta Airlines anymore.. they are just Delta... notice how anything corosponding with the airline only has Delta on it now? no more Airlines is in the name.

I was arguing about the difference in spelling: Airlines or Air Lines. Delta USED to call itself Delta Air Lines instead of Delta Airlines.

Excuse me for the misunderstanding. However, the official name of Delta is still Delta Air Lines I guess.

Next thursday, the new name, logo and summer timetable will be presented to the public.

As for the future alliance: a decision is apparently expected by March 2002.

Hopefully, we'll see Swiss Airlines A340-300's flying to and from SFO by late this summer.

The lower fuel burn of the A343 will more than compensate for the slightly slower cruise speed of the plane.

And why LH should give away 10 passenger planes for 10, or more, cargo planes?
Doesn't LH need those A340-300s?

Regards.
Any ideas for a signature?

Well.. I wonder what the new callsign of "Swiss Airlines" will be. Still "Swissair"? Will the logo still have a white-cross inside red colour?

I've heard that Swissair MD-11 would go to Fedex. But now they will go to Lufthansa instead?

I think Swiss Airlines will have a better profit when they fly the A340 than the MD-11. As the A340-300 is really burnt less fuel. But it will flies slower than the MD-11.

By the way, Lufthansa currently get 35 A340-300s. Among them 20 of them are A340-300 and 15 of them are A340-300X.

LH will get some A346. Instead of adding new frequencies or destinations, LH could also replace the A343 with bigger A346 to add capacity on the strongest routes.

I doubt, that Swiss Airlines will fly to SFO and PHL, as both are not amongst the gateways of any potential US partner, and Swiss Airlines won't add new destinations in the near future.
