Weird & Different Options To Europe From USA

Fri Jan 25, 2002 7:38 am

Hi All, I'm planning a trip to Europe for late this winter and it got me to thinking about what kind of airlines fly there. I know all the U.S. majors and the cities they go to and the Foreign carriers and what they serve.

I also know Singapore serves AMS from EWR and Air India from JFK to London. And Martinair to AMS from Miami and Orlando. What other strange foreign carriers serve Europe from the U.S. I'm mostly interested in flights out of New York and Newark, but would like to know what else is out there.

thanks

What about FI through Iceland? Reykaflavik or how ever it's spelt would be a cool option....

The Icelandair stopover is well worthwhile (and free too!)

JaseWGTN beat me to it. Icelandair I've heard is pretty cool, and Iceland supposedly is a very nice country to visit. Or doesn't Pakistan International Airways fly JFK-LHR?

I flew London - Keflavik - Baltimore return one time. We stopped in Iceland for a few days on the outbound journey for part of our holiday, but on the way back the stopover gave us a nice opportunity to stretch our legs, get some nice food and do some duty free shopping in the hour or two before boarding the next plane.
I also believe Aeroflot fly Havana to Shannon, Ireland (then continues to Russia, Moscow probably). If you can find a way to get from NYC to Havana then your all set.

Also, if you want to have a vacation in Los Angeles, you can catch Air New Zealand LAX-LHR. Yeah, it would be a longer flight, but I hear AirNZ is first rate!

You could also try Kuwait Airways. I'm pretty sure that they serve JFK with a 772. They make a stop in LHR and you can buy a ticket for just the JFK-LHR leg.

Royal Jordanian flies JFK to SNN and then to Amman, but I bet you could get a ticket to just SNN and then fly to London from SNN on another airline. The Royal Jordanian flight would be with an A310-300.

Another option would be to fly from EWR to Rome on Ethiopian Airlines and then catch a flight to London from Rome on another airline. That is all considering you can just book a flight from EWR to Rome on Ethiopian Airlines and not have to continue on to Addis Ababa (their flight is EWR-Rome-Addis Ababa). The aircraft from EWR to Rome is a 763.

You could also take Uzbekistan Airways from JFK to I think Birmingham, England. That, again is condering that you can fly just to Birmingham and not have to continue onto Taskent. You could then fly another airline from Birmingham to London. The only problem with taking Uzbekistan Airways is that they only have 3 flight per week to JFK and only one of them uses the routing, JFK-Birmingham-Taskent. The other two operate JFK-Kiev-Taskent and Kiev would put you a ways away from London.

I hope this helps and have a great trip!

regards,

Kuwait Airways flies ORD-AMS and JFK-LHR, Air India flies ORD-LHR, British Midland ORD-MAN, Biman Bangladesh JFK-BRU, Singapore does JFK-FRA, and Royal Jordanian flies Shannon-ORD and JFK...

Just a few I found flipping thru an OAG...

Tarom A310 from Romania to ORD... i dont know if they still do that though. Royal Air Morac to JFK... you could connect via Casablanca from most major European cities.

Uzbekistan Airways does not fly to the US anymore, and I don't think Tarom does either. Another less popular option is LTU from MIA, RSW, LAX, or MCO. All go to DUS.

Do LTU actually sell tickets ex-USA? I know Condor does (from FLL/TPA) but none of the UK charter airlines do (since these are not scheduled flights per se).

I would try Kuwait airways on the JFK-LHR run aswell, on a 777, their fares are generally cheaper too. Have a good trip anyway  Big thumbs up

This has been a really interesting post. I'm interested whether it is possible to travel from SFO to LHR going the other way ie. West rather than the usual east route. For example Aeroflot from SFO to MOW and then MOW to LHR. Any other suggestions?

You can fly with TAP Air Portugal from JFK or EWR everyday to Lisbon. I believe that from JFK is an A340 and from EWR is an A310
From Lisbon, a nice city btw, you can fly to every capital in Europe and some more citys.

Are you looking for the most exotic route or the cheapest. Air India sometimes offers JFK-LHR for as low as $170 r/t and the food is great!

Hoffa, yes. All of LTU's US flights are schedule. Year-round DUS-MIA and DUS-RSW, summer-only to LAX and MCO. As for Condor, they no longer fly to TPA. Still are doing schedule FLL. I think maybe MCO? In the summer they fly to ANC and FAI.

According to the OAG they both serve JFK at least.

Kuwait flies FRA-JFK, too.
