RyanAir And Its Success.

Fri Jan 25, 2002 8:50 am

I suppose I am a little late on the wagen here as I have seen quite a few post about Europes' RyanAir, but I just saw a piece on the news about the airline and how the airline is doing very well. With really cheap fares and a good business model the airline is making money.

Any comments on the airline and how the company may if any compare to US discount airlines i.e. AirTran & JetBlue. I suppose US airlines could take some notes to promote profitability.

A lot of the people on this board seem to have it in for Ryanair for one reason or another and wish it would fail or leave their precious flag carriers alone. Some kind of snobby, standoffish attitude toward the "great unwashed" I guess. Ryanair CEO is a bit like Marmite too...you either hate him or love him it seems.

I give FR a lot of credit because there are very few decently located secondary airports to operate from in Europe (quite unlike the US in that regard) and the fact that they are established in 14 European countries while Easy and Go stick to places like AMS, GVA, and the Spanish holiday destinations.

Obviously the train will be more of a draw in Europe as well, creating an additional source of competition for the LCC's.

It's all thanks to the brilliant Southwest model, as O'Leary says quite often.

I'm sure others will expand, but this is who FR use as a template.

In fact, I beleive FR's profits and fares are doing even better than Southwest's.

I'm so glad they're doing well-I've never flown so often in my life! Big grin

Regards
