Worlds Nicest/Cleanest Airport

Sat Jan 26, 2002 10:13 am

In your opinion, what is the worlds nicest/cleanest airport. I think that Vancouver Intl. (YVR) is the nicest airport I have visited, and I have been to a lot of airports. It is immacuatly clean, there are streams of water running through, a lot of plants, totem polls, gardens, and the structure is very modern with a lot of pine colored wood and brushed chrome. Then I realized the way they can make it so nice is they charge $10.00 per person when you check-in for each departing flight. What do you think is the nicest airport?

I've always been partial to the new terminal at Pittsburgh Intl (PIT). Well designed, lots of shops in the center, and very clean.

I have been to both HNL and DEN. In my opinion DEN is the cleanest airport in the country. HNL is unique for the states.

CMH is really nice and I have also found CVG to be pretty clean. The most disgusting airport that I have ever been to was Chicago-Midway! I don't know what it looks like now, but when I was there in the early 1990's, it was horrible!

The only problem I've seen with DEN is the distance you have to walk (especially the "C" concourse) from the train if your plane is at the far end. That's one freakin' long trek with bags in hand.

Yes, it is a long trek at DEN, that is unless of course you can hustle the guy that drives the cart with the crippled people around.  Big thumbs up

I think the most disgusting airport is LAX, especially the Alaska Airlines Baggage claim, that room is rotting away.

The cleanest I've ever seen is AMS, MCO, and DEN.

Absolutely the most amazing airports I've ever been to.

The new Schwechat (sp?) airport at Vienna is brand new, and is very light, airy, and is quite calm and soothing, it's probably my favorite.
Someday, we'll look back at this, laugh nervously, and then change the subject.

I love Orlando International. Nice, clean and I always love the feeling of arriving there because a new vacation is beginning and great golf courses aren't to far away.

My vote, as always, also goes to YVR. Once the renovations to the domestic terminal are finished it will be even nicer. What an airport!!!

The dirtiest airport I have ever been to was LAX. The Continental terminal was filthy. It was small and all torn up. The cleanist airport was MCO. That airport was spotless and very nice.

IMHO,LIH in Hawaii is the nicest. It's the only one that I've ever seen that is open-air. There is no wall between the curb and the ticket counter and the people are sooooo nice!

I travel through 20 or so airports a year, YVR, Vancouver, BC 2 to 3 times a year.

That's my pick. Not only is it clean, it has an open air feeling. Even the lines at custom have a tranquil feeling. Very tall ceiling with lot's of natural light and pleasant Customs Agents.

Not to mention, Vancouver is the cleanest, tidiest, occupied by the friendliest people in a large city I've ever been to.

YVR gets my vote. I especially like the anthropology display "room" on your way to the customs area after arriving. I love the architecture, the "BC blend" and the openness. I never knew totem poles would look so great in a modern looking building.

Not only that, but the baggage claim area is clean too!

Kuala Lumpur's KLIA airport is fab. The architecture is interesting and modern and the place feels really relaxed and airy. Navigation is easy and I like taking the trains between the satellite and domestic terminals as it gives a great view of the apron. I used to like Singapore Changi terminal 2 but on my last trip I couldn’t believe how dated it has become, even terminal 1 looks more refreshed. Those low ceilings certainly add to a feeling of claustrophobia so well done Malaysia. It’s a bloody great airport.  Big thumbs up

For the parts I've been in, terminal 5 and 6 at LAX are nice... the Bradley building isnt bad either... for entire airports, I can only say ATL or LAS.. never been to DEN yet.. dont remember HNL... and it sure isnt JFK... can't wait till all the terminals are redone... (I can dream, right?)

I've heard that one very nice thing about DXB is that it has probably the best on-airport shopping center around.  Smile

I've seen some plans for the rebuild of Terminal C at SJC and that will definitely be nice.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Our airport!! I have been to places like SIN, AMS, PER, SYD who all had very nice terminal buildings, but here its clean, modern, airy, quiet and very friendly!

Its on top of a hill with very good views around the whole of the southwest of England, to Wales, Gloucester, and Devon. Also, its probably the best drive to get there!

I would say ICN (Seoul), not only being brand new but also just extremely aesthetically appealling with all the glass. Kimpo was in pretty bad shape. As of now, DTW would get my vote as being the dirtiest but as we all know, it's being replaced very soon.

My Airport vote goes to Denver. Its architecture just looks cool. I love looking at that place

But Auckland Airport's Int arrivals/departure area is awesome. You only see this part of the airport if your on an international flight. Its very clean and fresh looking with all the vegetation growing and that small river going down the middle around the gate 3/4 and 5/6 area. Total New Zealand feel to it.

What do those of you who have been to Kingsford Smith SYD think of it?
I thought it was a hole but didnt really get to see a lot of it. Sure the new domestic QF/AN terminals are great but the international one needs a bit of work? OR did i Just miss the best parts?

Prague is very clean, although rather small (but growing!)...Munich is also very nice. Frankfurt would have been ok except for the fact that everyone was smoking, even where they weren't supposed to be, so it was really smelly and dirty.

I usually am flying NY to London, so on that route, I'd say EWR and LHR are a lot nicer than JFK and LGW. But as far as the airports go, I prefer EWR and LGW for my travelling, less crouded.

Helsinki-Vantaa (HEL/EFHK)

It's clean, spacy except for the Non-Schengen terminal which already is thru its best years, the new part is awesome though. It would be perfect if the CAA opened the spotting deck that has been closed since the 1970's.
