Next New 777 Operator

Mon Jan 28, 2002 7:41 am

Just wondering if anyone knew who the next new 777 operator will be. Just wondering, also, if anyone had thoughts/hipotheses about who a new 777 operator could be. Love

I'm not exactly sure.....but there are lots of rumors that PIA might be purshasing 4 772's that were built for United. But if that deal falls through there is definetly one new operator of the 777, Alitalia they are getting some in August.
I like British Airways! I'm not sure why, but I do! ;-)

Biman Bangladesh probably....all the mainline airlines already have 777s in their fleet if they are going to purchase them at all...

Vietnam Airlines, and Pakistan International will be the Next 777 Operators. I could also see Air New Zealand possibly ordering some. It will be interesting to see what happens with the 777-300ER.

I think I heard that PIA will not be purchasing the 4 777-200s that were built for United.

I think I also heard that those 4 777s have been de-engined and will sit at the Boeing plant for now.

I might be mistaken completely however. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My question is, who will be the next 777-300 operator? I look for United to get some -300ER's to replace their 744 fleet. If everything goes well, I could even see AA getting some.

I actually could see AA with 773s. They have a model of one on display at the AA CR Smith Museum in Dallas.

I see future 777 customer potential among:

Aeromexico, Britannia, Air 2000, KLM, new Swissair, Finnair, LOT, SAA, Air India, PIA, Biman, China AL, ANZ.

The most imminent new order is probably from KLM....for the 773.

What about Northwest getting some 777's to replace old 742's?
My posts/replies are strictly my opinion and not that of any company, organization, or Southwest Airlines.

That's what I'm getting at. They've got some old planes. Maybe 777's to replace?

This might be a bit off-topic... few years ago, I did everything to fly on the newest equipments, I prefered United transatlantic just because of their 777s, I paid some extra bucks to get onboard a LH A340 instead of a plain DC-10, was happy to get on a 747-400 instead of a -200 etc...

Today, with the large numbers of older planes parked in the desert or already scrapped, things have changed a bit. I just love to fly on a B747-100/-200, a DC-10-30, a B722 or even an airbus a300. Those old and mighty machines, with roaring engines and their very own character, even more exciting than the newest films on that PTV stuff in the new, all-plastic planes like the 777 or A330...

Therefore, I'm just hoping that NWA will keep their DC-10s as long as possible, and hope to see KLMs 742SUDs for the next several years!

Or, maybe, I'm just getting mad  Wink/being sarcastic

Cheers,
Tom

Tom,

No beefs against good, proven designs like Classic 747s and DC-10s. I was DC-10lover before 777s came around.

I just wanted to know if NW was or anybody else was getting new 777s and the facts are, unfortunately, that they were designed to replace those golden oldies.

NW is getting the A330 to replace it's DC-10 international fleet. They are getting the 753 to replace the DC-10 Domestic Fleet.

China Airlines is also evaluating the 777s.

Rumors back in 1998/99 saying that ANZ is interested in 777.

I can't see ANZ buying 777s in the near future unless they can get major discounts/second hand aircraft because they just don't have the capital for a purchase..they are more likely to go for more 767s IMO.

Air NZ was going to buy 777's before the Ansett disaster, but I think oneday NZ will operate 777's atleast 2-3 years away though.  Smile

Last year Air New Zealand were looking at A340s (and other airbuses)... Previously, Boeing had pitched the 777 to them. In their current state, I don't think they are going to be ordering anything soon. Best get the finances sorted out first!

Regarding NW and the 742s:

NW has made a very good strategy in keeping its 742s in good condition. But you can read this argument in a earlier post. THere is lots on this issue. As far as their up coming replacement in a few years....I would put money on it that their going to be A340's and 744s. I Know im not the only one willing to put money on that in this website.

KL will be next in my opnion.

I can see British Airways getting some 777-300's for a possible 747-400 reduction.

I hope that the new Crossair/Swissair will buy some, but it seems very unlikely with that large Airbus fleet.
Who knows...

FORGET THE FICTION - NOW FOR THE FACTS

ASIANA is getting ONE 773 this year
EVA AIR is getting 3 x 772 in 2004/5 (could be earlier)
EVA AIR is getting 4 x 773 in 2004/5
ALITALIA was getting 6 x 772 from August this year BUT
VIETNAM is getting 4 x 772 from 2003 from a leasing company's order of 10 (other 6 - who knows)
GARUDA cancelled its 6 x 772s (deposits used on 738s)
STH.AFRICAN has indefinately deferred it's 4 x 772s
MALAYSIAN has indefinately deferred it's 4 x 773s
KLM is a rumour only, but could do a joint buy with NW
AIR NZ - after having been just re-nationalised by a bankrupt Government - I doubt it.
PAKISTAN - don't think so.
BIMAN - you are dreaming !!!

BLACK BOX,

I hate to disagree with you, but some of your facts are not correct:

"ASIANA is getting ONE 773 this year" - unless it's in December, which is doubtful but possible, it won't be this year.
"GARUDA cancelled its 6 x 772s (deposits used on 738s)" - the 772ER order is still on the books, while there is no 738 order. The 'baby-Boeing's will be leased, not purchased.
"STH.AFRICAN has indefinately deferred it's 4 x 772s" - this order is cancelled. 2 aircraft were cancelled in '96, IIRC, then the other two were converted into the 738 order.
"MALAYSIAN has indefinately deferred it's 4 x 773s" - MAS converted their 773 order into more 772ERs shortly after the -300 rollout.

I always wondered why Qantas never ordered the 777 especially after being part of the 'developement' airlines.

They have recently ordered A330s (More fool them) A 772 in Qantas livery would have looked good but not as good as the Air New Zealand 777 should they lease some of UAL.

KLM will probably be next major 777 operator.

Air NZ were going to get 777's before they ran out of money after they bought AN, they were going to be leased from SQ.
Just wondering Mikey would NZ in the future get 773ER's to replace 744's? The leases on a couple of 763's come to an end in the next couple of years and with SUH now out of service and the 762's needing replacing maybe 4-6 772ER's for flights to places like KIX, SIN and ICN to replace these aircraft could be leased.

Just my thoughts!  Smile

UAL has just de-egined 4 maybe if they were to re-engined them and then Air NZ could lease them.
