as you can see in these pictures, teh flag is backwards on the plane, why is that? thanks in advanced!

Because if the flag was to be painted on in the other, more regular direction, it would be going against the direction of the airflow. If you attach a flag to your car, doesn't it look the same as this when you drive?

In the book of flag etiquette the blue field always goes foward (our flag does not retreat)!!!

On the left side of the aircraft the flag is facing correctly, it's done to appropriately reflect both sides of a flying flag.

someone comes around with a paintbrush and very quickly changes it around (and back again when pushback ends)  Big thumbs up

i wasn't aware of it...i always wondered why the starboard side flag on the space shuttle was the "wrong way" around.....

It is the rules that the stars are on the left of the flag.
