"Exactly what I asked about two months ago, its just for prestige they could do with the 747-400." There's not a lot of difference between the two actually, the A380 only carries 15% more pax, but it's operating costs are lower and it's new technology at the beginning of it's life, whereas the 744 is kind of old and isn't going to be in production, constantly updated, in 20 years. And for those who think Emirates adding A380s represents some kind of huge leap in capacity, remember the 777-300 is like a 747 Classic, so the gap isn't so big after all. They're also getting some A340-500s and/or -600s which are also in the 747 Classic ballpark.
And Emirates don't need to buy aircraft for prestige, they're already the best airline in the world.
