See Details (engines Etc.) Of New Swiss Livery

Fri Feb 01, 2002 6:02 pm

jetstream, the Swiss aviation magazine, has some interesting pictures on its website showing details of the new livery, including close-ups of the engines, tail etc.

Forgot to mention that in time for the summer schedule, two aircraft of each type will have been re-painted, with the remainder of the fleet following until April 2003. Crossair's MD83s, however, will not receive the new color scheme.

According to Swiss' CEO, instead of the large "Swiss" titles on the aircraft the titles may vary from aircraft to aircraft and can be «Schweiz», «Suisse», «Svizzera» and «Svizera» on one side and "Swiss" on the other side of the fuselage - that should guarantee a "BA World Colors II" hunt for the spotters.

CEO also said Swiss Air Lines ist considering to change its designator with effect winter schedule 2002/2003.

Thanks for that detailed link, Vfw!

Did you say "BA World Colours II"? Well, World maybe. But I don't see any colours...

Too white, it looks like an ambulance plane. A completely red tail would be better, or a cheatline and a grey belly. Or what about the winglets? And where are parts of Crossair's freh livery?

Sorry, forgot to mention that there is also a picture of the A320, not only the detail stuff, on the intro page:

Yeah they should have kept Crossair's livery and replaced "CROSSAIR" with "SWISS AIR LINES"

Now that would have been cool.

Now this Swiss/Schweiz/Suisse etc. stuff is crap. "Swiss" is an adjective, Schweiz is a noun. If they decide to invest in corporate diversity, they should stick to either but not mix it up.

I have to say, the multilanguage thing reminds me of the Swiss Railways signage: SBB CFF FFS.

As for the adjective/noun thing, I think it is a non-issue. The name is Swiss, and the name of the country is given in its four official language beside it. Its like saying Suiss:Switzerland, which is strange, but it does have the effect of including both foreign and domestic markets. Of course, if they go and stick one of the 4 swiss-language names as the big one, then it stuffs things up. I reckon leave all the aircraft as Swiss:Schweiz/Suisse/Svizzera/Svizera
