So just what is the green thing that looks like a cross between a DC10 and a 747? Is this the BA engineers getting bored during their lunch hour or what?

Cheers,

Jeff.

I believe it's a specialized fire/crash training "plane"

This is Heathrow's fire-practice airliner. It has been discussed in a former Airways Magazine article, I don't remember which one though.

I agree, it looks like a DC-10/747 with the ground clearance of a BAC 1-11.

Cheers. . .DIA

In Chicago (at ORD) they have a DC-10 shaped frame. DC-10 frames seem popular for fire traning (gee, I wonder why?). Anyhow, it's fascinating to go down there when they do the drills and see the thing all boiled up in fire.

There is a company that makes these fire training aids, and they are sold to a number of airport authorities, which is why you see the same one in use at quite a few airports around the world.

Cool!

It looks like it's covered in green grass. I dont think that would be such a good idea for "Fire training"  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
