When Is The First SAS A340 Flight To Sea?

Sat Feb 02, 2002 9:34 am

I'was checking out possible schedules from Seattle to Europe in May and the SEA-Copenhagen SAS flight was listed as A340 equipment. Does anyone know when the first flight will be with that equipment? Afaik this will be the first scheduled flight of an Airbus A330/A340 to SEA!

Oh my God, the enemy has invaded Seattle!!!! Big grin

I'm sure that when the first A340 arrives, N400 will be at the airport, waving an American flag....  Big grin

Im a huge BOEING fan, however I guess I wouldnt mind seeing it here, just because we have no 330/340's here.......however, from what I have read, Seattle is going to be one of the last cities to see AIRBUS A/C in SAS colors!!!!

Hmmm... I WAS hoping to visit Scandinavia in the not toooo distant future, preferably non-stop, but I guess that is out of the picture now...  Laugh out loud

I always loved going to the airport and bringing my radio so I could hear the Scandinavian guy check in and see that beautiful Boeing widebody on short final.  Crying

If promoting the local economy (and my parents and many others's jobs) is narrow mindedness, so be it.

I don't normally take offense to people who can't use proper grammar in their insults...

Anyway, people, lighten up. Damn. Stiff asses...

N400QX,

You flying an Airbus is not going to hurt the US' economy my friend.

Its just a stinking plain. It doesn't matter where its made. Today's economy is linked to the rest of the world.

Its something called a "Global Economy". The US' economy suffers, the rest of the world's suffers, The rest of the world's economy suffers, the US' economy suffers.

Most of Boeing's suppliers are "foreign" companies. When an airline buys a Boeing aircraft, they are helping not only Boeing, but the suppliers and a majority of them are not in the US.

Mitsubishi is just 1 example.

Well normally you don't insert a comma into the middle of the sentence just for kicks.

Nevermind.

And you all can call me or others "narrow-minded" as much as you'd like... if it makes you feel good.  Insane

I'm not narrow-minded. I use a *variety* of sentence structures. Honestly, there is absolutely nothing wrong with my sentence.  Smile

I know. But I tend to support all-Boeing or all-Boeing ordering airlines if I can.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you can spew that global economy crap all you want. But I'd just rather fly on a plane my neighbor helped build or my family is directly or indirectly related to than some euro plastic plane.

If you fly on SAS' 767s, you are helping out the Scandinavian economy. So whether you ride a SAS 767 or A340. It doesn't matter! The money you pay goes to SAS, and that money goes to the Scandinavian economy which is linked to the rest of the world's economy!

Same goes for United. If you fly on UA A320 or 757 on lets say SEA-SFO, it won't matter. The money you pay goes to United which goes into the US' economy which is linked to the rest of the world. It doesn't matter whether its an A320 or 757.

N400QX,

Another thing that needs to change is for you to stop bashing Airbus. Keep those comments to yourself. Stop with the euro plastic, POS, die-bye-wire and all that childish crap. We don't want to hear them.

All they do is start Airbus vs. Boeing wars.

As an American, I don't care where the plane is made or what airline I fly on. As long as it gets me to my destination, I don't care. I like planes depending on there comfort, reliability, etc. Not where they are made.

For example, I prefer the A320 over the 737. But I prefer the 777 over the A340. These are my own opinions from my own personal experiences. But they are all great.

N400QX,

I don't mind if you don't like Airbus. We all have our opinions. However, you NEVER give a valid reason to back up your opinion. You always say negative comments and bash Airbus with no reason at all. If you feel that way fine, just keep those comments to yourself. You may not like Airbus, but some others do.

Airbus has more than 1500 orders currently, they can't be as bad as you are saying.

Still don't like the idea of an A340 coming here. Ugh.

Fine N400QX, you don't like the idea of an A340 coming to SEA, that's fine. Just don't start spewing out negative comments that just start wars. I've seen plenty enough of them.

I'm not a huge A340 fan either. I prefer the 777, but that's just me. I'm not going to call it Euro plastic, or POS or any of that.

When Lufthansa started flying to Denver. I was happy because I would see a new aircraft type in DEN, EVEN though I'm not a fan of the A340.

I guess you're not the same, but that's fine. We all have different views on things.

Well, now it's time for me to weigh in. First, I don't give a rat's behind about the global economy or Shawn Patrick's grammer skills. As for Airbus, I think QX gave a reason for not liking it by stating "Euro-Plastic" I'm not a fan of composite planes. In fact, I hate them. I don't like that Boeing is starting to use composites, and have never liked Airbus because of the composites. When you glue a model together, would you want to fly in it?

Most aircraft experts will tell you that composites are the future.

Most aircraft being built today are made of a lot of composites. Airbus isn't the only one. The 777 has a lot of composites aswell as the 717 and 737NG.

As for what I think about composites, I'm undecided at the moment.

Plastic...that's all I have to say. I'd rather be on a 737-200 than a 737-800 with all that plastic.

N400QX

Maybe you'd better move out of Seattle and follow Boeing to Chicago. Seattle will be looking at more A330/340 in the future I guess. Northwest [flying daily rotation to AMS] will replace their DC-10's with A330's in a couple of years. Lufthansa will most likely also be flying Airbuses to Boeing ex-domicile in the future. It's a bad world out there for you Boeing man!!

So the question you need to ask yourself: To loose or not To loose  Laugh out loud

Point is this......the 340 will be the 1st Airbus wide-body to call on SEA. I'd rather see a 777-300 myself in any airline colors, but hey I'll take pics of the 340 as well. In fact If the 330 of NWA starts flying SEA-AMS, I will miss the DC10, but I shoot pics of the 330 as well.
