A new 10-gate addition to Terminal A at Bush Intercontinental Airport is open for business, serving travelers on Southwest Airlines and US Airways.
The $65 million north concourse, which mirrors a south concourse added to the original terminal in March 1999, will also be occupied later by United Airlines and Air Canada, said Houston Airport System spokesman Ernie DeSoto.
Mayor Lee Brown and other local officials cut the ribbon Thursday on the facility, the latest addition in a $2.8 billion program of expansion and improvements to the airport system, including nearly $2 billion at Bush.
DeSoto said work continues on the baggage claim area of the new concourse, but this should be finished by summer.
The cost is paid with a combination of federal grants and user fees, DeSoto said.
