Pakistan Airlines Has Anyone Experienced Any Worse

Sun Feb 03, 2002 10:03 am

I just came back from a trip from Pakistan on Pakistan Airlines and I have to say this is the worst airline in my opinion. My flight there and back with them was a disaster. The airline itself is a Joke!!! I don't know how they can call themselves a airline. Service his horrid with lazy shy flight attendants. I really hope that they can learn from high level service airlines to improve there product. The acft itself was very dirty and had a unpleasent odour. Has anyone else flown with the uncivilized joke of a airline??? Im going to be righting to there head office and to my travel agent. When I booked the flight I got a dirt cheap deal now I know why. Oh and yeah, delayed there and delayed back...reason "mechanical".

Ya, welcome. By the way, post whatever you please. Comments about a bad experience on an airline are absolutely kosher.

I don't think anyone will be too surprized about your experiences on PIA. WHat did you expect?

Welcome once again

This airline in my opinion needs some major work on improving service and maintenance of there old fleet. Does anyone know if they r getting any new acft?? There A-300/310 and B747 r very old indeed. It would be nice to see them invest in newer acft like the B777 or A-340 but I guess they can't because of no cash to afford them.

Pay peanut, get monkey.

Don't bother writing in to PIA- it will achieve nothing except a waste of your time.

Go to the Skytrax Website at www.airlinequality.com.
You can read horror stories about PIA...including the experience where the positioning crew was talking on her mobile phone throughout take off and landing. Rather astonishing IMHO.

Yes, I have had worse experiences on other airlines than I have had on PIA.
Northwest - DC10 IAD-AMS (twice) - 2 hr delays, dirty planes, broken lavs, non-existent service, rude FAs, no inflight entertainment, broken headset connnections.
TWA - 747-100 - JFK-CDG - wretched food, no seat pitch, obnoxious FAs.
United - IAD-SFO 763 - disgraceful service, rude FAs, cocroach in the lav.
Lufthansa - screaming FAs (screaming at passenger who asked for a diet coke e.g., "When will you Americans learn that drinking diet coke will not make you thin?"); broken Audio equip; unheated food.

So, the list goes on. I guess Third world carriers are merely following in the footsteps of their First World brethren.

In nearly 20 years of airtravel (one round trip per month) I have never ever experienced rude airline staff. Of course I have never been on an third world airline except Air India (and they were not too bad) but I am amazed at some of the comments made.

The worst airline I have been on is Britannia - and that was because of the very cramp seating - minimal pitch and 8 abreast on a 767. Flight attendants and food were fine.

After having been on PIA aircraft, it's one of the few carriers I advise people to avoid.

I think its a gut reaction to be over critical of "third world carriers" while being perfectly accepting of miserable service by so-called First World carriers. This is a mode of behavior exhibited by not only Westerners, but by citizens of those third world countries too. As a case in point, I have made numerous trips on Air India almost all of which have been quite good. I fly Northwest to Europe a lot, which is frankly just plain awful - in both classes. Other third world carriers which merit good grades include Air Lanka, Ethiopian, Air Jamaica, Thai of course, and MAS (although it would be hard to call Malaysia a 3rd world country anymore).

My opinion on PIA is based on observations I don't dare to put on the net and have nothing to do with inflight service.

BTW I have had very good service from NWA in-flight (WBC) & ground staff.

cheers

Well its true PIA are quite disappointing and more so especially for those who fly them for the first time, and yes your e-mail will just be a waste of time, but as Jaysit said similar experiences can be also had on "first world" airlines, personally I have had some bad and some really good flights on PIA. Their A310-300 are only ten years old some even less Smile

Jaysit: You Said...

Lufthansa - screaming FAs (screaming at passenger who asked for a diet coke e.g., "When will you Americans learn that drinking diet coke will not make you thin?")

Jaysit, if an F/A of LH really did scream at a pax in a way that was openly hostile, she would have been fired (Contrary to what most people believe, that is possible in Germany). So it sounds to me like that was a joke and she knew that passenger or they made fun or anything.
Many here on this Forum will gladly swear that this is how LH staff handles customers all the time, except it is not true, and as I have a little bit of insight in LH procedures, I can assure you, the lady would be looking for another job.

Well everyone has a good or bad experience. It all really depends on the day. These are your personal opinions ofcourse and you have the right to argue. But you will find that, these bad experiences make this particular flight more memorable in your mind, than others. What route did you fly, by the way?

I know many of PIA's transatlantic flights are rather good compared to some major US airlines. The best crew are put on these flights to provide the best service to its passengers.

You have to think on a wider scale, rather than just to write about the bad points. As many have you have mentioned here. We are talking about a carrier which belongs `to a third world country` here, so you cannot criticise it. I understand PIA is no EK or SQ.

PIA have created a niche for its market. That being the Pakistani community. Due to this single market, I don't really think, this consumer group is really concerned about product innovation or inflight facilities. They are more concerned just to get from point A to B. This is probably why PIA, have stuck to the same formula,

I agree with the fact that PIA are operating an ageing fleet, but plans for a fleet renewal are underway. Lets see what happens later in the year.

How about Delta 777 economy ATL-CDG? Cramped, uncomfortable seats, broken entertainment system, food service that McDonald's would be ashamed of, and unbelieveably rude, nasty, bitter, slatternly FAs all wrapped up in the Delta air of superiority they haven't deserved in years. Delta management needs to experience what their SkyTeam partners offer.

Andreas -
That wasnt meant as a generalization for Lufthansa. The FA in that particular case was a Frankfurt based head purser in Economy who was being rather boorish on that flight IAD-FRA flight.

The point of that statement was that flights on ANY carrier, however prestigious, can be quite dreadful based on a number of factors - the FA assigned to your zone in the AC, food picked up at the embarkation point, load factors, etc.

However, I stand by my comments on NW. I've had one wonderful flight wiht them (AMS-BOM in Dec. 2000), but thats because the crew on that flight were not the regularly assigned crew - but by and large they're horrible inflight. Fly them for their FF program which is very good.

these kind of stories can happen on ANY airline!

you seem so touchy on LH employees, but if I listened to you I could tell you most old b*tchy LH ground team @ CDG would be fired!!!! they're so arrogant and uncooperative with other airport employees

and since I'm french here goes for AF on an ORY-FDF 743 flight (west indies) : this stupid old cow of a purser came around shouting at pax "now, those handbags are yours....don't count on me to put them in the racks,I'm not touching them !" and boy was she yelling....

My Thoughts...

Tue Feb 05, 2002 9:11 am

Hello all,
I think that it really depends on what day it is. By this I mean that some days, you might the airline staff fail to pull it together while other times, you will list them as your favorites. No, this is wrong thinking about PIA that they are very cheap and that is why there service is like that. They are not cheap, infact, I looked up at one website and it listed that PIA's flight to Toronto (in Canada, right?) was not the cheapest but was rather expensive. So you see, those of you who are saying that PIA is cheap, are wrong.
Secondly, I have read some trip reports of people and once I read about Emirates (Karachi to Dubai) and the person said that it was so bad that regardless of the name the airline has achieved, it seemed that he was having a nightmare. One of our friends, who live in Canada said that he flew Air Canada and found it to be very bad while for the half of the trip, he took Gulf Air and thought that was better.
So you see, just because you fly with them once or twice doesn't make you eligble to make comments on an airline.

I will be flying, cancellation / deviation for Haj / usual PIA cock-up permitting, on the 21st from LHR to LHE. Last time I flew, the cabin / flight crew were apathetic, rude, patronising and ugly on both legs of the journey.

So watch this space. I doubt if things will be any different this time around apart from the -300's getting even dirtier and the entertainment system getting even crappier. But it only last 7 hours and it's worth it as home is where the heart is!!!!

Layitontheline: no doubt PIA has disintregated as an airline in many ways...very sad when you imagine that this was once was a very bright and prosperous airline during the 60's and 70's...much like EK and SQ. Infact the great irony is that PIA was intrumental in training and making an airline out of both EK and SQ among many others...specially from Arab/Muslim countries.
Apparantly you had a bad experience on them....you didnt say anything specific at all on your post...its all quite subjective your comments...none the less why dont you tell us what route and airplanes did you fly?....when did you fly?

I think this thread is fake, if you really did travel PIA mention the routes and aircraft, perhaps you've done it out of obvious hate for PIA and Pakistan, infact I wont be surprised if I know who you exactly are and may have even posted here under your usual user I.D.

I have been on PIA, and whilst not exactly blown away by the quality, wasn't too disappointed.

The worst I have experienced are:

Biman Bangladesh - 22 hour delay (on a 4 hour flight!), OLD a/c, smelly Bangladeshi rif-raf pax and near-vertical landing approaches.

The worst ever was Lao Aviation. On an Bangkok-Vientiane (LAOS) flight we crash landed at Vientiane (no major injuries - a few broken bones for other pax because their seats had no seat belts(!). We ended up with the nose in jungle foliage at the end of the runway.
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

This notion of "It all really depends on the day" or the route is no accuse for bad service. Smaller airlines, such as Southwest or Westjet, tend to offer better service because their employees know the overall survival of their company depends on it.

What's another word for thesaurus?

"Im going to be RIGHTING to there head office", is stated in the original paragraph--can anyone tell me why we are giving this post any time of day???

I also have to mention that his choice in selecting a picture representing the airline is pretty misleading. Granted PIA have that aircraft in their fleet, but i'm willing to bet that he did not fly on that aircraft at all. I personally think that he has never flown on PIA.

In the future when it comes to post's like these, --without actual flight numbers, sectors, aircraft registrations, and dates travelled, we should all click on the suggest deletion option.

p.s here is a better pic.........

Cool Down Guys...

Asalam-o-Alaikum and Hello,

Guys, cool down. If you read his profile, you can see that he lives in Canada this means that he probably had a ride on either A310 or B747 300.
Besides, this is not a court room rather just a forum so anybody can write about their experience. Why is everybody getting heated up and acting as if they represented PIA. Fine we are Pakistanis and feel that PIA is better than the way described but if he feels that it isn't, big deal.
