Flights To DCA

Sun Feb 03, 2002 12:01 pm

What new procedures do airlines have to follow to fly into DCA? I did a search on this but didn't find anything.

You cannot stand up and use the bathroom, etc. 30 minutes prior to landing.

I heard something about special quarantine procedures, and that flights from Atlanta to DCA was using Concourse E because they have the necessary facilities. What kind of "quarantine"?

THE MOST REDICULOUS RULE... No 757's allowed as they carry to many folks.

i dont agree with the 757 banning from DCA, because still the md-80's and the 727's are still flying to DCA and they are almost as long as the 757 and the same destructive power. and as far as i know is that the 757's are the replacements for the 727's that are going to be gone sooner or later

When I flew to DCA from DFW, AA uses a seperate gate which more ID checks and possible screenings for DCA pax. They use gate C39 at DFW for DCA flight, which ONLY DCA passengers are allowed to go to the gate.
I dunno if the other airlines are like that or is it just AA at DFW?

Also, National Airlines is trying to start its LAS-DCA service in te future. I'm sure when DCA gets back to normal and if nothing happens, terrorist wise, they'll be back to 100% and perhaps they'll un-ban the 172-passenger rule so the 757s and the 739 will be allowed.
It could happen by the summer.

Last Tuesday I was connecting through IAH. Two gates down from my gate was the departure gate for DCA. It was roped off and the passengers had to sit at other gates. There were two police officers standing guard and an air marshall at the gate. I knew it was an air marshall cause it was obvious he had a gun strapped to his ankle underneath his pants.

Here in HSV, our DCA flights depart from a sort of quaratine also. Only DCA pax are allowed in the area, and when they board, a National Guardsman, other LEO (usually a Huntsville city police officer with a bomb sniffing dog) and an air marshall are all present.

What I also heard, and tell me if this is correct, is that they use only certain crews and certain aircraft to run these flights. Last Thursday, the ERJ to DC literally died just after puchback and the flight was cancelled. The problem was pretty major (something about the ailerons (sp?)) and on Friday, all the DCA flights here were cancelled. They said that it was because of the broken plane that was assigned only to HSV. Is this true?

So I'm assuming ATA no longer opperates DCA-MDW-LAX seeing as no more 757s to DCA.

AA indeed dedicates gate C-39 at DFW to DCA flights, although it can be used for other flights also. When a DCA flight is about to board security comes in and runs everybody off, they check everything, random bag checks, etc.

I thought there was a rule that nobody could get out of their seats the first 30 minutes out of DCA, but in the flights I've taken since 9/11 I haven't heard any mention of it.

The last AA flight I made from DFW to DCA the pilot was extremely insistent about nobody getting up during the last 30 minutes of the flight. He wasn't being rude or anything, but he made it abundantly clear that everyone had better remain seated.

Pilots have a 2-word code they give to the tower before landing at DCA. A while back an America West pilot got mixed up and gave the wrong code. The plane was diverted to IAD, the FBI rushed on, the passengers were treated like criminals, etc.

Was DCA open last week when there was the State of the Union address?

I almost would find it surprising if it was due to Bush, Cheney, Powell and several other high profile people nearby in the Capital under one roof.

I flew to DCA last November and pax had to remain seated 30 mins. prior to arrival as well as on departure. UA uses a couple of gates on the B-Concourse for DCA flights and these are roped off and only DCA pax can sit in that particular gate area. I believe ATA is flying into DCA again but this time with 738's.

DCA was open during the SOTU! However, they closed the airspace in a 25 mile radius.

AA also isolates ORD-DCA to K1, K2 or K3.
