Continental Into ANC

Sun Feb 03, 2002 4:52 pm

Hello all. I would like to know what type of aircraft CO plans to use into ANC this season? Any 767-400's?

Will they be adding any new routes? I know they fly from ANC, PDX, and EWR.

Thanks.  Smile

It looks like 757s from Seattle and Houston.

For the summer season I would expect the same as in years past... namely 752 nonstops from EWR and IAH. If the demand is high enough, you could see a 753 flying up that way now and then as well. 764's? Sorry, but I must think not.

I would say a 767 is possible, maybe not a 400 though. I hope to see a 300 this summer.

When the route was launched last year, it operated with a 757 which has the range for the 8 hour + flight from Newark. The flight operates in summer season only as a nonstop from EWR to ANC and from IAH to ANC, both are 757's. In the off peak season, Continental had been flying the EWR route as EWR-PDX-ANC with a 737-800.

The 767-400's are operating Hawaii routes and the few that will be delivered this year are going into service to Ireland and Frankfurt from Newark.

A 764 will also have to be allocated for the new IAH-AMS service.

IAH-AMS will now be a 762 for a while before switching over to a 764... not enough will be in service to support the route at that time.

I don't understand why CO doesn't fly seasonal service from ANC into CLE? I know EWR and IAH are larger markets but I would think by flying into CLE you could get alot of connecting traffic from the midwest during the high tourist season up there.

Yeah they would get lots of traffic if they flew to CLE. Maybe they will add more routes this summer.

Both the EWR-AMS and new IAH-AMS route will be flown with a 762.

The only North Atlantic 764 service this summer will be:

EWR-DUB, EWR-SNN, and EWR-FRA.

Correction: Continental will be flying 767-400s this summer to Madrid, Rome, and the second-daily Paris flight in addition to the ones mentioned. Also, Shannon will be a 757 while DUB will still be a 764 as planned. However, Continental will be flying double-daily 777s into Gatwick from Newark, so there's a boost of about 280-seat weekly increase in that market.

Just checked a few more flights;
MAN-EWR and GLA-EWR are both showing as daily B767-400 operations for the summer.

If CO is ever going to do CLE-ANC seasonal (and CLE-HNL maybe on saturdays would be nice, too), it's probably at least a year away. A few thing have to happen first. 1. The dual runway project needs to start up, which is slated for December of this year or January 2003; 3. CO needs to add feeder traffic in CLE, which won't happen in any significance until the dual runways are up; 3. CO needs the city to lower the landing fees so that CO would fly the route with even a 752.

If that happens, you might someday see a seasonal nonstop CLE-ANC.

They are doing great on the ANC run, they are making money because no other airline is doing a non-stop east coast run all the way up to ANC.  Smile
