We're Back! Sun Country Airlines Announces Return to Scheduled Service With
Flights to 11 Cities; Airline Close to Deal with Investor Group

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Country Airlines
announced Wednesday that it is returning to scheduled service with 11
cities starting February 27th.

The airline had temporarily suspended most service on December 7, 2001,
while in talks with a number of potential investor groups. On January 3,
2002, Sun Country resumed limited scheduled service between Minneapolis/St.
Paul and Laughlin, Nev. on Thursdays and Sundays with guaranteed flying for
Hobbit Travel and Don Laughlin's Riverside Casino.

Citing assurances that the company will finalize a deal with an investor
group in the next week, Sun Country Airlines President and CEO David
Banmiller said the airline was confident in its ability to operate the new
schedule.

``Today we are telling the public and travel agents that we are back. We
are again offering customers a quality choice for air travel and are ready
to welcome them back on board with us,'' said Banmiller. ``We've heard from
thousands of customers and travel agents that they want Sun Country back in
the market. We're responding and we're counting on increased public support
as we resume operations.''

Starting February 27th, Sun Country Airlines will offer scheduled flights
to the following destinations:

Origin/Destination Start Date Frequency

Minneapolis/Laughlin January 3 Thursday, Sunday
February 28 Monday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday

Minneapolis/Pensacola February 10 Thursday, Sunday

Minneapolis/Las Vegas February 28 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday, Sunday

Minneapolis/Orlando March 1 Friday, Saturday
March 13 Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday

Minneapolis/Ft. Myers March 2 Saturday
March 15 Monday, Friday, Saturday

Minneapolis/Miami March 3 Sunday

Denver/Laughlin February 27 Wednesday, Saturday

San Jose/Laughlin February 28 Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday

San Antonio/Laughlin February 28 Thursday, Saturday

Seattle/Laughlin March 1 Monday, Friday

The new schedule and pricing will be loaded into the computer reservations
systems tonight and will be available for travel agents and consumers to
start booking tomorrow, February 7, 2002.

Sun Country Airlines will be opening its own reservations center at 7:00
a.m. on February 7, with hours of operation between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Central Standard Time. To make a new reservation with Sun Country, call

Did LaMacchia get new investors? Because I thought he was sick of writing off losses?

Does SCX still have their -700? If so, where is it??? I haven't seen it on any charter flights nor has there been any mention of it for over two months. A while back someone mentioned that it was parked out in front of the maint. facility at MSP, but when I was at MSP on the 2nd, it was no longer there.

I was very surprised to see PNS on this list. I don't see how this is going to work...unless SunCountry offers some really dirt cheap fares or has some kind of partnership with hotels in the Pensacola/Ft.Walton/Panama City area.

The only reason I could see for launching this flight in late February is to catch the Spring Break crowd. Panama City is a big place for spring break, however the PFN airport doesn't have much for flights. Many spring breakers fly into PNS and then drive/take bus down to PFN.

Even still, I can't see how Sun Country will fill 738's on this route. Then again, PNS in the winter might seem pretty balmy to someone living in MSP.

Looks like Sun Country has searched the US for every city not served by NW at MSP!
Good luck to them- with destinations like Laughlin and Pensacola they'll go down the tubes again.

I'm glad Sun Country is back in scheduled service!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Their recently revised livery is by far the best of the new liveries of the last 24 months. It looks way better than the revised WN, F9, BD etc. styling disasters we've see too much of lately.

Very strange mix of cities to be served with strange schedules. Did they have scheduled service to Laughlin before from so many cities?

Laughlin I can sort of understand. They'll probably make a deal with the casino's there and that should help fill the planes up. But I'm not sure how they came up with PNS....maybe they just threw a dart at a map of the US and lo and behold it hit PNS!

Although they are regularly scheduled flights they have made a deal with a travel operator to sell a majority of the seating to the travel operator.

PNS is a golf charter. Don't be fooled by the scheduled service it is not. It is scheduled charter. And yes they are staying off NW turf. They also have a new owner but that is not official. LaMacchia was sick of writing off his fortune. Why they are going to fly 2 727's is beyond me. I guess they really do not want to make money? 2 each? The -700 never flew for them, it ferried in from BFI and was repo'd.

Sun Country provided this same "Golf Charter" service to Pensacola last year, I suppose it was profitable for them.
When they fly into PNS twice weekly, they utilize Delta's gate 4 and it arrives around 10pm. They unload some folks, put another group and head back out, about 45 minutes later, it was a 727 last year.
I guess the plane arrives at a later hour so it can be convienient for the golf playen folks, they have there day around the holes and then head home at the end of the day.
I am familiar as to the arrival time and such of SunCountry into PNS because I remember one evening last year, I was visiting a friend of mine who works for Delta (I was also waiting for a flight to come in) and while waiting we went down on the ramp and waited for the flight to come in, it was slightly late. We walked back upstairs and he worked the flight.

Actually, after thinking abit, that one evening occasion I was thinking of was two years ago so this is
Sun Country's third year doing "Golf" charters to PNS

Some of these cities and Florida make me think that maybe AirTran could be getting involved with Sun Country. Just a thought, since they have been among the airlines rumored to be interested in Sun Country.

I live in Minneapolis, on the news last night it said they would start up again with 7 brand new aircraft. (6 737-800, and 1 737-700), looks as if the 727's are no longer going to be operated.

According to their web site, all the service is scheduled. I'm sure a good chunk of the seats go to tour operators though.

Bill LaMacchia's no longer there. He's gone. It's great to see Sun Country flying again! I sure hope they resume their MSP-JFK service as soon as possible! I'll be around the airport tommorrow, so I will report if I see the -700!
