Frontier More Expansion Into NE?

Thu Feb 07, 2002 9:21 am

Anyone think that Frontier will expand into more cities this year, mostly into cities like BDL, PVD, MHT, IND, CMH, or possibly BUF?

With the stop of flights from Hartford to Denver, this leaves a open hole and I think Frontier could come into the BDL market and be successful with flights to DEN. With a new terminal expansion and O & D numbers usually over 200 pax a day in most quarters, does anyone think they would come to BDL and fill the void UA left. UA once had as many as 3 non stops to DEN back in the late 80's I believe.

Same goes for airports such as PVD and MHT and others I mentioned above. Any future growth possible for these cities?

I'd love to see Frontier fly to DTW. But it is getting more unlikely all the time with an already saturated route with Northwest and United and from what I hear soon Spirit too.

I think for this year that's it for Frontier. They announced that they would serve 3 new cities this year. New Orleans (MSY) just started. Sacramento (SMF) and Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) are to start on Feb. 26.

I think that will be it for Frontier, until at least the end of the year.

However, that doesn't mean we won't see new cities. I think we will see as many as 5 new cities by the end of the year flown by Frontier JetExpress which is to start there first destination, San Jose (SJC) and supplement Houston (IAH) service starting on Feb. 17.

I noticed on the OAG on-line schedule for June that F9 Express has three flights scheduled to St. Louis and two going to Ontario, CA.

Diatraveler,

Oh wow! Thank you for the notice! They must have decided to start STL and ONT but haven't announced it yet.

My guess the official announcement will be sometime at the end of this month.

Thanks again!

I'd imagine that BDL-DEN service by Frontier isn't in the cards right now; if they're only offering one daily flight BOS-DEN, it doesn't seem to make sense to offer a flight to BDL. The passenger numbers aren't really there, either, even before 9/11. 100 passengers each way is pretty marginal given that they'd likely be competing with several other airlines (UA had under 50% of that 100 passengers).

I believe some quarters are as high as 250-280 pax a day on the BDL-DEN route.

Corrently there is no service at all, and BDL needs west coast connections. With HP, UA, and AA all adding service back to the west from BDL it still doesnt provide all the connections that should be in place. UA should at least bring the DEN flight back, but Frontier wouldnt be so bad since they do serve a lot of west coast cities.

I had no idea that F9 was coming to STL, thanks for the heads up. Think they might return to bmi one day?
