What Was That Red Field At Roa?

Please click at photo close up see left side. See the color red ground. What was that?!? I never saw such a bright red plant or something...

I would have to guess either small red flowers or patches of halophilic (salt-loving) bacteria or algae growing on moist ground...

No problem. As a matter of fact I've been considering getting some bright red halophilic algae to spruce up my front yard :-p
