IWill Fly Aeroflot, Help Me Out!

Mon Feb 11, 2002 6:55 pm

Hi,

at the end of this week I will fly to Moscow on Aeroflot.  Insane

How is Aeroflot doing lately ? I heard they are trying hard to improve but have no experience on them.

How would you rate the

- food
- FA's
- comfort
- ground staff / service ?

Thank you !

No recent experience, as the last time I flew Aeroflop was in 1994 or so, but I remember well the "Sok" and "Chernobyl Chicken" that was served on practically every long-range internal flight, the seats that were supposed to mold the shape of the "New Soviet Man" (which must have been similar to the Elephant Man), the habit of waiting until the pilots got off the plane before the passengers could do so, etc. etc.

But from what I've heard, the modern Aeroflot has made huge advances since then. One thing that always impressed me was the impression that Russian pilots seem to be excellent (when they were sober - I have a couple of good stories about that).

the airline has had a huge turnaround what with the new western aircraft ie.. 777 737 and a310's

so the new a/c do most work from europe to svo so you might get a 777 or a 737 depends where you are !

you wont be geting a il86 as aeroflot have decide to use these for internal flights and not to go outside of russia now

hope this helps

Hello,
Well I am not trying to scare you but as you know Putin did say to expect more airplane crashes becuase of the money issue with airlines..................................
I flew on Aeroflop oops err excuse me AEROFLOT back on September 27th 2001 out of Moscow and the service was OK not near as good as on for example Northwest Airlines or anything like that............. The food was, well to be honest weird. LOL I am not Russian so I dont eat that kind of food. I was there for 7 days and almost everytime that I ate there I got sick, of course the Russians are used to it so you know, Russians might just get sick eating American food....................................
The aircraft was an Ill something I was too out of it to pay attention to the airplane believe it or not. My first thought was uh oh crap I am flying on that?

I flew Aeroflot in 1999 on ORD-SVO-LED return. I flew on Aeroflot's Boeing 767-300ER, reg. # EI-CKD on the ORD-SVO-ORD legs, as well as on LED-SVO (the aircraft had just flown in from San Francisco), and a TU-154M on SVO-LED. The flights were all very good, with the exception that for some reason, the entertainment system was not working on EI-CKD at the time. The service was good, the food nice, overall a very pleasant experience. They offered a duty free shopping service on the ORD-SVO-ORD flights as well. Comfort on the 767s was good, but on the TU-154M, the cabin had the newer seats Tupolev put in the M-series, which are a bit more bolstered for the back, but have the infamous rod-across-your-ass cushion common to every Soviet airliner I've ever flown on. Plus legroom is VERY tight in coach on Soviet-era jets.

Overall, I felt as if I were on any European airline - for comparison, it was much like Finnair and SAS in terms of quality, if not availability of amenities. I especially like Aeroflot's tea and coffee service, which is served from real stainless steel tea and coffee pots, in more the traditional Russian manner - tea is brewed seperately and diluted with hot water.

Enjoy your flights and tell us about them!
