ATA In Kuwiat?!

Tue Feb 12, 2002 8:46 pm

I've seen an ATA L1011 landing in Kuwait today! It's the first time I know ATA operates flights to KWI... Does anyone know about this?

Ya could be a Hajj charter, coz the season has started. They could also be for military use, b'coz i've seen some USAF heavies landing in today...

Definately NOT a Hajj charter. No US airline would be touring aroung in the Middle East at the moment - and most likely not that many people from the region would be happy flying with a US airline anyway.

TR:
When we speak about Hajj (pilgrimage) flights, then it's meant that either Kuwait Airways or Saudi Arabian Airlines have leased it... Of course not ATA itself.

Definitely military...looks like Dubya's going to walk in Daddy's footsteps and make a bloody big mess in Iraq. What can he possibly hope to achieve? "Change of regime" according to the US gov't, but change to what?

Or on a US made aircraft no doubt.

Then again they have so many hi tech aircraft to choose from that they themselves have built, it being such an advanced part of the world.

Take it easy pal!!! Many high tech, brand new 777's and 747's are flying in the middle east today!! Still living in this world??!

However, airlines are going for Airbuses mainly for technical issues: most airlines operate A320's and A340/330's, possibly better and closer customer support from the manuf., etc...

American Trans Air started out in '73 as a military charter company, it didn't start carrying passengers on scheduled service until '86 (did charters earlier, I think) , and it still does a huge business in military charters. I don't know any other airline in the US that has this kind of lineage.
