Four-Engined 777 Found!

Wed Feb 13, 2002 12:25 am

For ALL of you DOUBTERS who said: I made it up, or, it is not being considered by Boeing, or, how silly - the 777 is made ONLY for two engines. . .this one's for you!

For all of the newcomers, this stems off a topic a few days ago. It was titled "Choosing 777 over 747" by EA CO AS. We had a good size arguement whether or not Boeing was considering a 4-engined 777. People basically laughed at the very thought, and I said I'd find where I read it. . .so I have.

I have found the article that mentions the 777 w/ four engines: Air International JAN. 2 Vol. 62 No.1. p.22 under "New Projects."

It reads, "...Boeing has established a study programme called Large Airplane Product Development to cover ongoing work for a very large airliner to meet demand for a new high-capacity aircraft. Several alternative layouts and configurations are being considered, including enhanced 747 designs, an enlarged 777 with four engines, developments of the former four engined version of the McDonnell Douglas MD-12, and futuristic shapes involving blended wing-bodies..."

How would you like your crow?

What would a 4 engine 777 achieve if you did not double deck it. The 300ER will have 2 x 115k and does not need any more power.

I say extend the Hump of a 747 all the way and install GE-90s PW4090s or the big RR Trents. (Re Winged of Course)

Now that would be a choice plane!!!!!!

If you extend the upper deck of the 747....there is not enough room for all the passenger baggage in the holds...let alone any cargo.

The article says that they are studying an "enlarged 777 with 4 engines".

If this did happen:
1) It would not look like the current 777

and

2)Would probably have a different designation ie 787,797,

And in the end be a different aircraft. So what you have found is NOT a 777 with 4 engines, and disproved your own point quite well.

good job

So what about Boeing will get a new B787 or B797 in the future? How is possible as for the new aircraft and new longer range with the passengers on the flight. Please let me know about anything to do. Thanks!!

Regards,

Scott

4 engined 777 = A340-500 or -600.

if a330 and a340 have haven't got the same desegnation and also a300 and a310 too, the 777 will not as well. that's my opinion.
