Is there a way to find out, which exact plane flew particular flights, long time ago?

Fri Aug 12, 2016 1:29 pm

Greetings to all on the forum, new member here. Though I have been following the forum for many years already, so I'm not a total newbie. And I've been obsessed by planes since I was like 7 years old or so.

So my question is, is there a way to find out which exact plane flew particular flights, a long time ago? I know it's possible to do searches for recent flights, but 13 years ago? I am pasting one of my itineraries from 2003 below, why I would really like to know this should be self-explanatory. I've asked the airline directly btw, they did not have records that far back. All online tools I've tried, have failed. If anyone could help, I would be extremely happy.

Is there a database to find registrations for past flights?

Mon Mar 06, 2017 1:41 pm

Not only 10 years but also 7 years ago or 6 years. I still know which airline, aircraft, date, depature/arrival airport it was but not the registration.
Best regards,
Patrick

Depends. It may be easier to provide some details of the flight(s) so we can advise.

What was your country of departure? In the United States, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) had an online database of scheduled service departure times that included aircraft registration number. I haven't searched it in many years, but the data went back to the late 1990s.

Here's the link to the Transtats page (see the Detailed Statistics section) if your flight was in the U.S.:

https://www.transtats.bts.gov/ONTIME/Index.aspx

Should note that some carriers are not fully represented in the data set. YV, for example, seems to have only started reporting in 2006.

Is there somewhere we can check for Lufthansa international flights?

FRA-DEL
DEL-FRA
YYZ-FRA
YYC-FRA
FRA-YYC

I have the exact dates, flight number and aircraft type

Its for example the flight from London LHR to Sao Paulo GRU with a TAM Airbus A330-200 on the 11th of July, 2007 (date of depature from London).

What about for UA / DL & QR movements for flights taken on 06/26/2010 for DOH-PVG (QR888), 08/23/2010 PVG-DOH (QR889), 08/23/2010 DOH-LHR (QR017), 01/15/2012 JFK-NRT (DL173), 01/16/2012 NRT-PEK (DL617), 01/22/2012 PEK-DTW (DL188), 03/26/2007 LAX-NRT (UA 891), and 04/02/2007 NRT-SFO (UA838).

Sorry for the long list, I've tried each site possible (flightstats, DOT, etc) but still can't find the regs. Thanks

Are there any other websites available to search for this information?

For flights all around the world, not just American or Heathrow departures/arrivals?

I would love to know what aircraft (reg) operated the first six flights of my life:
US711/01JUN2008 ZRH-PHL (was it N251AY?)
US598/01JUN2008 PHL-LAS
US2892/20JUN2008 LAS-AUS
US2604/21JUN2008 AUS-CLT
US754/23JUN2008 CLT-PHL
US710/23JUN2008 PHL-ZRH (Arrival 24JUN)

If someone could get me this info... that'd be simply fantastic!

Flightradar24 if you are within a few days before or after your flight.

Also flightstats lists these as well (can be hit and miss depending on airline) at the bottom of the page.

I believe you can pay an exorbitant (seeming) amount on Flightaware and get this info. Though not sure what all is available in their for-pay database.

I did a few test searches using information I know is correct from my airfleets.net travel log and a lot of the registrations in that database are incorrect I found out. Heck some of the registrations they gave back to me didn't even exist. For example. I flew on AA447 (an MD80) from CLT-DFW on 12 Aug 2011. The actual registration of the aircraft I flew on was N70401. The website has the registration as N401AA.
Another one was AA2011 (Boeing 757) from DFW-LAS on 19 July 2005. Registration was N713TW. Registration the website gave me was "N5TNAA".

For airlines like AA that have internal ship numbers that differ from the registration, it will often incorrectly show the ship number in place of actual registration. For example, N5TNAA corresponds to ship 5TN, which was registered N713TW.

You can cross refererence this against sites like the AA fleet page (https://sites.google.com/site/newamericanfleet/) to transpose the ship numbers to registration numbers. Again note here that this isn't an all inclusive list of their historical fleet, so the aircraft you mentioned won't be in there. But aircraft currently in their fleet or recently retired post-merger should match up.

I understand the use of ship numbers but I tested for other AA flights I flew on and sometimes it would show up correctly, other times it would incorporate ship numbers and sometimes they would go into left field and write something completely different.

Brilliant! I just filled in four registrations from 2001 that I thought I'd never get.
Does anybody know a database for Vienna in the late 90s?

Flightstats has a beta website that shows times, flight, aircraft etc but not the registration.

This was amazing. I was able to find 2 BA B772's and 1 B744 that I flew on a few years ago thanks to the LHR-archives. To see G-BNLT stored at VCV was a bit of a blow - she's the only 744 I've flown on, DXB-LHR back in 2007. Still, thanks for the tip!

Wow that is amazing - there are a few flights on which I missed out on the registration so I'm really glad to have found this.

One carrier that doesn't seem to appear in their stats is Republic Airlines right?

I checked BTS, and it seems you got the same aircraft both ways! CRJ900 N933LR, opb Mesa (YV).
Nothing compares to taking off in an empty 757 with full thrust!

Does anyone know if there is there a website that will allow me to find "N" numbers from International departures/arrivals of US airlines? I would be looking for flights as far back as Apr 2008. Thanks!

A long shot but would anybody know the Reg for my flight from LGW Gatwick to Nairobi. I departed on the 26 December 1999 on a BA-744 and lost the Reg. I've always wondered and have no idea how to find out what the reg was. Be most grateful.

Thanks guys, these are some cool sources. I was able to track a few BA flights, and an AC flight that was missing for me :-)

Is there anything older on US and Canadian carriers? I am looking particularly for:

AA 1988, 1989
PI 1988
AC 1989
CP 1990
NW 1991
UA 1992
US 1993
CMM 1996
TS 2003

It would be fantastic if I could find a few registrations...:-)

Cheers

Could someone please look up the registrations of the aircraft that operated:

QF25 MEL-AKL-LAX on 08/11/2008
QF94 LAX-MEL on 25/11/2008

They were my kids first long haul flights and I would love to get the registrations.

Thanks :)

I checked out those websites but was unable to find the registrations, can anyone help find the following? Even aircraft type with these would be awesome.

CO16 20JUL88 MEL-HNL
CO2 20JUL88 HNL-LAX
CO20 12AUG88 LAX-EWR
CO28 14SEP88 EWR-LGW
TG915 24JAN89 LHR-DMK
TG485 09FEB89 DMK-MEL
MH198 16NOV10 KUL-HYD
MH199 26JAN11 HYD-KUL
MH199 17JUN11 HYD-KUL
TG225 02JUL11 BKK-HKT
MH199 01JUN12 HYD-KUL

For these I am unsure of even the flight number.

26MAR86 GA... MEL-DPS
07APR86 GA... DPS-MEL
26DEC86 QF... SYD-DPS
05JAN87 QF... DPS-SYD
11MAY01 SQ... MEL-SIN (I know there is more than 1 a day but I can work it out with the connection time to the next flight)
11MAY01 SQ... SIN-MXP
25MAY01 SQ... FRA-SIN
26MAY01 SQ... SIN-MEL (I know there is more than 1 a day but I can work it out with the connection time to the next flight)

Also a British Eagle Brittania going on the following route in October 1964
England (london?)-istanbul-mumbai-singapore-darwin-melbourne

Thanks for any help.

Here is a site for Heathrow and Gatwick, the archives go back to 1959. They are obviously much more detailed as time moves on. I verified details on the first flight I took in March 1970. This was possible because the aircraft was a 747, and it was the first time that particular aircraft had been to LHR. But, the info was definitely correct. Have a look, it is fascinating. http://www.lhr-lgw.co.uk/ I hope it helps some of you, it certainly helped me.

I have a nice list of all my tail numbers, except the ones that I flew on when I was a kid. I have given up on being able to find any AV and PA tail numbers from the 1980s, but I was able to find everything else except 2 flights. I looked on bts.gov already and unfortunately, it is not listed, if anyone knows where I can find these it'd be great to finish my list of flights minus the flights I took as a toddler. Both flights are on ATA:

TZ3513 - MSN-MDW (operated by C8, Chicago Express) Saab 340B
TZ644 - MDW-FLL 737-800

This is fantastic but BA flights are not listed. There's a BA heading but no flights. I've checked other dates and nope, no flights.

Is there any way to find out the first revenue flight of an airframe? I think I might have been on the second of A6-BLC from BNE to AUH, but can't remember the date.

I have the same problem of an incomplete log. Over the years I tried to complete it without success and any additional reg would mean so much to me. I added return flights to my data where the return flight was operated by the same aircraft, hopefully someone can help me..

how about AMS-EWR & EWR-AMS on SQ023/024 in 2004? Any suggestions where to find such info?

I am looking for something similar. Need to get my boarding passes out for the flight dates and numbers but it was definitely 2003 on what MH called it's 772ERS "Super Rangers". Route was EWR-KUL-EWR via DXB. Would be eery if it was 9M-MRO or 9M-MRD or even both.

I have number of pre-2001 flights that I am trying to find the registrations for, but the list would be too long to post here. However, there is one flight in particular that I would love to know the registration for:

30 AUG 2001 FRA EDI LH4664 operated by British Midland F100

Can anybody help?

Rather than respond to any specific question, I thought that I'd try and add just to the list of reg tracking resources.

We've heard about the LHR and LGW movements website, the BTS website, ACARS listings and FR24. There is also http://www.planefinder.net that will give you a longer look back than FR24 (to about 2011: use the playback feature under 'map'). Movements from AMS after 2009 are listed under http://schiphol.dutchplanespotters.nl/ which I think is one of the best websites around (very comprehensive). If you are a member or know a member there are also databases available for the Netherlands (http://www.scramble.nl) or LGW (gatwick aviation society). Maybe we should have a sticky somewhere listing website resources and how to track flights?

Database of operated flights by date and time

Fri Mar 10, 2017 9:55 am

Does anybody know where I can find (free) information about the flights operated from a specific airport by date and time of departure / arrival?

Thanks!
