It's the typical PR skewing. They (Southwest) bump up a frequency on Saturdays to Orlando, Tampa, and Ft Lauderdale, while at the same time, you take away a frequency to Baltimore, Chicago, and Las Vegas.

Also, FLL and SFB by G4 is going daily or almost daily next year.

I did read the text. Which is why I quoted "Ik it has nothing to do with WN." I wouldn't of said that phrase without reading the text FYI.

Speaking of "extra facts", going through the schedule IND-OAK seems to be all 737-800, which is pretty odd for a new route. What I'm thinking is that in the future the plane will just continue on to HI from OAK, but I may be wrong.

IND-LAS also goes all 737-800 it appears

That's pretty interesting. I would of thought that it would be a mix of -700 and -800s.

Seriously.

In addition to this nonstop service, Southwest extended or increased the number of flights for the June – August 2018 schedule to three other destinations including San Diego, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, Florida. Seasonal nonstop service to San Diego first took off in June of this year.

There's NO "extra facts" here. What. on. earth. ?!?!?!?!?

Nice spreadsheets. I always like looking at different airports. I haven't seen a fare one yet. Can you add BLV to G4? I don't know if you have the info for it but I wouldn't mind seeing how it compares. Also, what is the time frame of the passengers number in the O&D chart?

Yep I just added BLV, and I'll add more once I find the time

Pax numbers are from Apr-Jun, the trick I believe is it only represents 10% of enplanements so the number needs to be multiplied by 10.

Dang the yields out of AUS are pretty bad. Can't believe the IND yields are 50% higher. Nice we can see this much growth and still maintain healthy yields.

Nothing that I know of this weekend. There is a decent size (25k) convention next weekend. Colts host the Steelers on Sunday.

The daily IND-MCO flight is going mainline starting March 2nd! Pretty big move for a p2p route!

Thanks I must have missed that, but there always seems to be some sort of large event in Indy every weekend, so I just assumed there must be something.

Yeah I’m not sure on this one, Jan-Feb may stay CRJ but we will see....

But nevertheless I am very happy about this. DL seems to be ramping up ops in IND, especially with rumors that DL is very close to adding IND-SEA to compete with AS, plus the new IND-CDG flight as well.

This is a highly competitive route, so for DL to invest more resources in it shows a lot. (especially since it overflies ATL)

What’s next!?

That's a little ambitious but it doesn't mean it can't grow. DTW-MCO for example is expected to have over 1 million travelers for the year (including 1 stop and connections), up from only 900K, and thanks to the contributions made by Spirit adding 4 flights, DL increasing frequency to 8 during peak, Southwest returning for Saturdays and Frontier re adding their daily flight speaks for that growth. Now IND won't reach the 1M mark to MCO but Florida services are fueled by low cost carriers, when someone can take a family of 4 to Central Florida for just over $500 on a ULCC and are willing to pinch the penny and do 2 suitcases and back packs, and pay $20 for all 4 to sit together, you can't beat that deal, that's the wonder of ULCC's.
Whether you're here on business, returning home, or visiting our world class attractions, welcome to Orlando and Central Florida...

There used to be significant service to Florida from IND. Just look at the history of IND to Florida routes. TZ ran L1011's to MCO. NW ran numerous Florida routes. Those routes (with the exception of MIA I believe) were daily and sometimes 2x+ daily. FL (before it was taken over by WN) ran a ton of Florida flights out of IND. I think they were around 3x daily to MCO, 2x daily to TPA and 2x or 3x daily to RSW. That was in addition to their FLL service but I don't remember the frequencies there.

DL could run 2x daily to MCO and TPA without much of a problem. Not sure about RSW. They should also be able to do daily to FLL or MIA. I am talking all mainline service too.

Running more seats out of IND would also bring down DL's cost per passenger served. Those gate leases are a fixed cost. DL should make better use of those leases.

:checkmark:

I'd actually like to see more growth in the IND-Florida market
IND-Florida was at 91.9% LF in March, so it is definitely possible that we could see more service to FL

Spirit:
FLL, MCO, TPA, and RSW

Sun Country:
RSW, PBI, TPA, MCO

Delta:
Already upguaged the IND-MCO flight so we will see how that goes
IND-RSW seasonally daily during march
IND-TPA 1x weekly during spring-summer seems reasonable

Frontier:
IND-MCO already went daily in March
IND-TPA added already
IND-RSW daily at least in March (LF was 97.3% in March '17)

Allegiant
IND-PIE/SFB/PGD/FLL all have seen increased service, but 2x daily (not just on Saturdays) could work
That's a little ambitious but it doesn't mean it can't grow.

Ambitious, yes, unrealistic, no.

The Midwest-Florida market is enormous, that I think has an enormous capacity to be stimulated....

I say IND-RSW because during Q1 IND-RSW, in terms of PDEW, is a larger market than IND-TPA and IND-MIA+FLL

Yes, they could easily run all of those flights, but you know how DL feels about ATL and I doubt they want to many flights out of IND overflying their baby....

That's why LCC's are a good thing to an extent, too many can cause issues though, the reason why WN doesn't go year round on DTW-MCO is because the customer base is just too loyal to Delta and Spirit, Frontier is finding a niche to survive, I have no doubts B6 would find a spot too. As for IND don't forget there's probably room for one more airline, LCC or not and what that LCC does is unpredictable.
Whether you're here on business, returning home, or visiting our world class attractions, welcome to Orlando and Central Florida...

I looked at this coming spring and DL is running 3x to MCO, 2x to TPA as well as 1x to MIA and FLL from RDU. No reason they couldn't do the same from IND. Thought it seems that all of the RDU flights are RJs.

Keep in mind, IND has much more competition to MCO/TPA/PIE than RDU, for example, March 17th

IND-SLC will also be an A320 for almost the entire summer, rather than an A319.

That's really good news. Now we just need to find out when G4 releases their extension.

Look at Mario Rodriguez's status on Twitter.

What could this possibly bring?

I know there were talks about a FedEx expansion, and a possible terminal expansion/renovation/concessions refresh. This meeting has to be something significant due to the location and everything. Let me know what you guys think below.

Allegiant's schedules have been extended to Aug. 2018. They did promise us new route announcements before the end of the year. I am assuming they're going to add those into the existing schedule later on. They haven't released anything network wide to my knowledge.

I was searching online and it appears that WN has increased IND-FLL to 3x daily for Spring Break, I guess this must have been added fairly recently

So giving a quick rundown of what IND-Florida is looking like next spring break (March 24th)

IND-MCO/SFB (DL, G4, F9, WN)
1619 one-way seats

IND-RSW/PGD (DL, G4, WN, F9)
1315 one-way seats

IND-TPA/PIE (F9, WN, G4)
1027 one-way seats

IND-FLL/MIA (AA, DL, WN, G4)
895 one-way seats

I know a lot of talk has been put into DL, but AA next March AA will be up to 46 departures out of IND, which is pretty big especially with mainline to ORD, DFW, CLT, PHX, and LAX. Also now that PHX goes 3x-4x daily with 4:33am and 5:58am arrivals, that should add a few more connecting pax considering those times coincide with the 5am-9am morning flights to DCA, LGA, CLT, e.t.c

Interesting, though they still will only fly to hub airports (as is the case elsewhere), I doubt they will add point to point routes like DL does considering AA does not seem to be very forward thinking.

I'm curious, when does AA do mainline on IND-ORD (according to wikipedia, it is a seasonal route)? I often found it a little odd that AA would do mainline on that route when it is not that long of a flight.

Also, how did IND manage to get both PHX and LAX on AA? It seems as if most mid-sized airports east of the Mississippi (RDU, BNA, CMH, CLE, MSY, etc) have one or the other, but not both. Is it simply a remnant from US Airways?

I believe it runs 1x B737 Feb 16th-Apr 2nd, with 2x B737 on Saturdays, which is not normal for that route so I think they must have started mainline this year, although they did run the MD80 on this route for thanksgiving

You are correct PHX was a holdover from US Airways, and LAX was added in 2013.
At the time only DL was running IND-LAX, and now that IND was no longer a focus city AA could cherry pick that route with little trouble
CLE, was a UA hub at the time
RDU, had service to LAX on AA, US air used to run RDU-PHX but it was cut
BNA, had AA/DL/WN running the LAX route, the lack of BNA-PHX is hard to explain though
CMH has both
MSY, I don't think US air ever ran MSY-PHX
I think it just depended on competition in each individual market.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... =442834959

So I have started reviewing the gate situation at IND and here are a few takeaways from the gate usage today:

Delta departure gates 12/04/17 A7, A8, A10, A11, A12, A13, A14, A15, A16
Usage : 3 gates with only one departure, 5 gates with only 1 arrival, A11 had the most departures with 7: 3.4 departures by gate

American departure gates 12/04/17 B5, B6, B7, B8, B9, B10, B13, B14, B16
Usage: 3 gates with only 1 departure, 2 gates with only 1 arrival, B6 had 10 departures: 4 departures by gate

Southwest departure gates 12/04/17 B17, B20, B21, B22, B23, B24, B25
Usage: 2 gates with only 1 departure, 2 gates with only 1 arrival, B17, B20, and B21 each had 7 departures: 4.4 departures by gate

United/Air Canada departure gates 12/04/17 A17, A21, A22, A23, A24, A25
Usage: 1 gate with only 1 departure, 1 gate with only 1 arrival, A23 had 7 departures: 4.83 departures by gate

Alaska/Virgin departure gates 12/04/17 B5
Usage: 2 departures by gate

Frontier 12/04/17 B15
Usage: 2 departures by gate

Allegiant 12/04/17 B3
Usage: 3 departures by gate

One Jet 12/04/17 B4
Usage: 2 departures by gate

Gates in use: All Concourse B gates are in use, Concourse A, A3-A5 (A3 and A4 1x arrival for DL and UA) not used for departures. Although A4 and A5 are int'l gates and A3 will be given to F9

That leaves one gate up for grabs (B15) next year, I would still like to see G4 move to A to take over 2-3 of the DL gates, which would allow AA and WN to basically have B to themselves. But that all depends on when DL's gate leases are up, because there is not really a good reason why WN and AA should have fewer gates than DL when both offer more departures...
