Airlines In Movies

Thu Feb 14, 2002 1:01 am

I just got a DVD copy of the movie "Bullitt" (Steve McQueen, 1968). The last twenty minutes or so are at San Francisco Int'l Airport, with outstanding interior shots of the terminal and close-ups of taxiing jets (even a PSA 727). Even better, there are several scenes inside a real Pan Am 707! Does anyone know of other old movies that have authentic airport/airline scenes? I'm not talking about movies like "Airplane" or "Turbulence," or the phony, cheesy sets they use to save money. I mean movies with authentic use of real airports and airlines. I've heard TWA leased their planes and facilities to producers a lot in the 60's and 70's. Anyone know of any other movies like that? By the way, check out "Bullitt," it's very cool!!

The original "Airport" was pretty good. I dont know if the interior was real, probably not, but still pretty good.
The TSA was created to make the post office look efficient!

Well Allegiant Air used their DC-9-21 in Say It Isn't So and wasn't there a Fed Ex plane in Cast Away?

There is a movie called "The out of Towners" from 1970 staring Jack Lemmon. That's one of the funiest I've ever seen  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

It's about a couples journey to New York wich ended up in chaos.
The trip starts at a small local airport somewhere in the US where they board a B727-100. The first 15 minutes of the movie are filmed aboard this B721 were they cycle the New York Airspace while they wait for better weather for landing.
It's great to se the old times come back, filmed in the beautifull "technicolor" colours

In "Heist", one of the latest Gene Hackman movies, Montreal-Mirabel Airport (CYMX) is used as a fake Boston airport.

The company that operates the 727 used in the movie is fake, but you can often see planes that are common to YMX in the background of many shots. For example, you will easily spot Air Transat L-1011s, an ICC cargo A300 as well as a Royal A310.

the one and only Die Hard 2 was set in washington dulles airport, with many planes used.

I was watching Rush Hour the other day and right at the end it shows a United plane sitting at a stand, then when he goes on board he starts talking to the flight attendant in chinese ( the flight was bound for china). Im sure the plane also had a set of stairs behind where they were filming, yet it was not a 747 they showed from outside.

The opening scenes of 'Wait Until Dark' (1967) were filmed on location at Montreal Dorval and at New York JFK, showing two of the characters boarding and later getting off an Air Canada DC-9, 'Flight 760'.
