Air Malta. Are They Concidering New Aircraft?

Thu Feb 14, 2002 7:33 am

Do you know if Air Malta is concidering new aircraft (buy and/or lease) in the near future? Their B737-200's are quite outdated and noisy. The B737-300's and A320's are still okay.

Hello all,

Considering the size of Malta and their location also the share in market they have, I think that they don't need to change their fleet. It is quite efficient and is adequate for the traffic load it handles. Maybe when there is good demand, they might want to replace their 737-200s with 737-500s.

Air Orange,

Air Malta leased two Boeing 737-700 from Maersk Air for the summer 2000 season and a Boeing 737-500 again from Maersk Air together with an Airbus A319-100 from Lufthansa for the summer 2001 season.
Beside the purpose of adding extra capacity for the busy high season, all four aircraft were used for tests if they fit to the Air Malta route network.
Maybe plans have changed since September 11th, but Air Malta was considering an order for either Airbus A319/A320 or 737NG to replace its Boeing 737-200 and -300 (in the long run).

Kind regards,
